    Hi,

I am seeing a few different numbers for the amount of memory for the GeForce 8400 GS.

I’m looking at 3 sources. One on Nvidia's website lists the maximum memory at 256. On Dell's site for the Inspiron 1420 it lists the memory at 128 dedicated. Finally, on HP's site with their DV2500t it says: 64 dedicated and under the specs section says 319.

So, how much does it really have for the HP DV2500t and the Dell Inspiron 1420? How is the memory set up?

A few more non-related questions that I didn't want to post in a separate thread:

For the Inspiron 1420 it’s got the optional wireless-N card. Is this part of the "Santa Rosa" chip set? And, is the wireless N compatible with the 802.11a/b/g?

Finally, I noticed when customizing the HP DV2500t on their site, there was an option to pay more for a dvd recovery disk. This kind of struck me as odd, aren't all new retail pc's suppose to come with the operating system disk if someone wanted to do a fresh install. Legally as well I would think it’s a given to get your cd keys and disk automatically with your new comp. Anyone know what’s up?

Lastly, is it safe to assume that all new laptops like HP and Dell will come with auto sensing ac adaptors with variable voltage like: 100v-240v, 50/60 Hz? I ask because I’m going abroad and don’t want to get a power converter.

    Sorry for the noob questions.

the max of 256 you saw means just that. correct me if im wrong, but the 8400 gs is turbocache. 128mb dedicated and 128 shared. it can also come as 64mb dedicated and the rest shared.

as for ac adaptors, i've traveled from korea to saudi arabia to south africa and everything works fine. you dont need a power converter from what i know. you may need a connector though depending on the shape of your plug or the outet in that particular country.

The Dell 1420 has a 8400M GS with 128MB dedicated and I think up to 384 shared for a total of 512MB. But you should ignore the shared Turbocache when looking at this.

The HP has a 8400M GS with 64mb dedicated and 256MB shared. Total 320MB. Not sure why it say 319MB :p

The Wireless N card works with a/b/g and is only an option for Santa Rosa it is not a must. Companies can still call their laptops Centrino Duo even if they use the older a/b/g only chip.
