I was very surprised by my score. With this card I've never gotten more then 4400 marks (running XP). This is my first test with WIndows 7 and i'm amazed by it. I'm going to test XP with the same setting as this one. Check back soon!

    UPDATE:

    Windows XP benchmark: 5131 Marks

I think it has more to do with the driver than anything. 179 series is famous for its high benchmark score, but in terms of gaming performance, I'd prefer the modded 18X.XX series, but of course, these modded drivers may cause some functions to go hay wire (not as serious as it sounds)

It's because of your superior CPU, other than that, the guy isn't O/Cing his card like you did so extremely. There's no tool to monitor your memory chip temperature, maybe you should drop your memory clock abit?

Good point. I had someone point it out like some time back so I dropped it down to 850MHz. ;)

hmm, i get mid 5k with a mild overclock on 179.48 drivers on 1280x800. And with a decent overclock i get into the low 6k range.

I don't know the clock gen #. Would you know how I could locate that?

Either search for someone who does know the PLL for your EXACT laptop, or you can take it apart and look.

Envy envy envy for being able to overclock your CPU AND for having a GDDR3 GeForce 8600M GT.
I couldn't hit those benches if I tried.

Having mated a e7500 clocked at 3.25 ghz my score only jumped a couple hundred points from a e6600 clocked at 2.8ghz. The video card will always play the most important part in 3Dmark06 scores. With the max OC my DDR2 8600M allows only score 4500 :( So I wouldn't bother upgrading the CPU if you intend to look for better scores or better game performance.

As far as encoding and editing etc are concerned then yeah CPU all the way.. :D

Yeah your right. What I really want to do is upgrade my 8600m gt to a 9600m gt. But I'm uncertain of finding one that is compatible with my lenovo.

You won't find one - no Lenovo notebooks use the upgradeable graphics card form known as MXM.

How are you able to overclock CPU? Where can I read more about it. Can I do it too?

The Asus C90S uses desktop processors that can be easily overclocked using clockgen or setfsb. I think its more tricky with mobile processors but I could be wrong. Its all depends if you can find the correct PLL to recognise your processor in these programs. There should be plentiful threads on here how to OC both processor and GPU's on most models of laptop.

Also OCing creates more heat having 4 x 9500rpm fans on this brick helps overcome this problem I think many laptops have much less cooling for their CPU's despite using less power.
