Help me please, if I change MXM expansion graphics card towards a GeForce 8600M GT instead of the current GeForce Go 7600 in my Toshiba A100 laptop, it will not work, though the GeForce 8600M GT was fully tested and functional. I read some articles about whiltelist block, but I didn't find details around this. As far as I could find out, the motherboard BIOS contains some particular video BIOS's such as the Mobility X1600, Mobility X1400, Mobility X1300, GeForce Go 7300, GeForce Go 7600, etc. I would like to change one of the previous files with the BIOS for a GeForce 8600M GT. Is this procedure correctly?

Are you sure that laptop can even support MXM? According to THE MXM source, it might not be possible to upgrade your GPU.

Yes I am sure, because GeForce go 7600 by Toshiba was fully tested and functional in Laptop Compal Fl90.

Maybe you could contact k-tron in the Hardware Components and Aftermarket Upgrades forum. He'll be able to help you.

I could be way of the mark here but if your bios doesn't contain the GFX card your stuffed..you could have a custom bios made up at some expense or see if their is a bios updgrade by toshiba.

Thanks for the information and that is okay for me. So next I will try it and see if it will make a difference and if the card will work afterwards.

The A100 does support different graphics cards, but I think the maximum upgrade is the 7900GTX for that system
I remember because I originally wanted to buy an A105, (identical to A100) and the options for graphics were the 7600 and 7900GTX
The 8600 will not work in your system, because I doubt your system can read it. It wasnt invented yet. However look for a 7900GTX for A100 on ebay, you should find one. Its much more powerful than a 8600GT anyways

Why go 7600 by Toshiba A100 run in Compal laptop, if isn't MXM ?

toshiba A100 supports proprietary format
GeForce 8600M GT with MXM module not supported by laptop?
