Are they similar in performance?
Which one should I get?
-
What laptops are you looking at?
-
The 8700m GT is better in terms of performance according to the bench marks. But then again a notebook with HD 2600 should be cheaper and smaller (ie HP 8510p).
If you want a portable laptop and lower cost I would say the 2600 but if you just want a desktop replacement and have a high buget...i'd say 8700GT -
Toshiba X205s v. Fujitsus and HPs.
-
eh, the x205 and hp 8510p are both great laptops you couldn't really go wrong with either it really comes down to what you want:
x205
- better gaming
- awesome speakers
- 17" screen for larger viewing space
- heavier / less portable
8510p
- worse but still good gaming
- awesome build quality / better customer service (business lineup)
- 15.4" screen + lighter / more portable.
- nice keyboard -
If these two laptops are similar in price, and you don't care about the size/weight (x205 is 9.2lbs, HP8510p is 6.1lbs+ depending on config and battery)then get the x205...
The x205 is in at least a whole performance class above the HP8510p with a bigger screen, better video card, two hard disks, 4 speakers + subwoofer, etc.
Both are good choices, but the x205 is more oomph for the dollar if they are similarly priced.
If the HP is cheaper, then its a toss-up depending on whether performance or smaller size/weight is higher on your prioity list. -
is it just the hd 2600? not the xt? the xt is better than the 8700gt but i would say the 2600 is on par with a 8600gt
-
its not the XT... pretty sure the XT is designed for 17" to directly compete with the 8700.
Love to see the 8700 and the 2600XT compared... what are you taking your comparison from Nars? -
some earlier benches from the HDX review compared to the X205, very similar...just the XT is a BIT better but nonetheless better

there is the x205 review...id say about the same as a go 7900gtx...not at really high resolutions but still quite good..it runs direct x 10 games much better, ini the toshiba forum it could run bioshock at 1440x900 at highest settings possible.

there is the HDX review
http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?id=2274&cid=14&pg=4
note the toshiba g40 in the review has 4gb of ram while the HDX has 2gb
i think it performs better in the quake 4 test, but mayb at a lower resolution.
the clocks are higher but i guess we can only assume at this point
im going to re-firm my statement and say that they are equal for now. -
Using current drivers for the 8700, the 2600XT trails in 3dmark06 by 200-300 points from anands benchmarks...
and almost 1000 points from mine OC'd with stock drivers at 775/938.
I'd say they are similar, but the 8700 seems to win every comparison to date by a small margin when not OC'd... no idea what the 2600XT is like for OC.
The toshiba g40 in the review is an 8600 to boot... most likely a GDDR2 one...
Its not really a fair comparison placing an 15" 8600 GDDR2 vs a 17"+ 2600XT. -
Looking at Toshiba x205-S9359 (costco have them for $2199 with 2 years costco warranty included) v. Fujitsu LifeBook N6460, and HP ones.
-
costco warrantys are the best, bought a portable dvd player there 2 years ago and we have worked our model up to the best one they have because they keep breaking down, cant go wrong with costco
-
8700m GT beats the HD 2600 hands down. As others have said it seems to have a small margin on the 2600XT also (for now, anyway!).
-
probably, but considering there better than the cards there supposed to be competing with, thats a plus for ATI
GeForce 8700M GT or ATI HD 2600 ?
