We have absolutely no idea. We have no info to necessarily base it on. We would be saying it on a wing and a prayer. It's obviously going to be less powerful... but that's it. We don't know what corners they'll cut, what they'll downclock, etc.

The thing, though, is that it's a card that has well...two cards in it, it seems like it's SLI, but together so games that don't utilize SLI that well may be able to incorporate this type of card better. The main thing I don't get is how they'll be able to fit a card like that into a laptop without SLI.

They probably won't. It won't happen. They cut corners like I said. But nVidia might pull something out of their butt and prove us wrong. Until then, we dunno.

The 9800 GX2 is nothing more than 2 g92 cores running together.

    In a way, an 8800m SLI setup is ~ a 9800 GX2.

They'll make a 9800m in another year or so, but the current high end laptop card is the 8800m GTX 512mb and it was released back in November/Decmber. The 9800 GX2, after some recent tests, is the top card on the market though for desktops. It will have the ability to be used in Quad-SLI or two of those puppies running together. One alone runs Crysis at 50 FPS on High Quality in 1920x1200. The only card near it is the ATI Radeon 3870 X2, but it was outperformed in every game by the new 9800 X2. The Radeon did get a higher 3dMark06 score, but it didn't perform well in the real world. The 9800 GX2 will also go for $599-$649. Here is a link to some information on it.

the HD3870 X2 is $150 cheaper about, and they perform like pretty much the same, I would not go with Nvidia on this one.

I dont know if we will ever see a true dual-gpu from any graphic card providor in a laptop version in the near future. Dont know if the cooling will ever be adiquite. But Dual 8800Ms will get us close to its performance.

This much difference is probably because the HD3870 X2 use only 1 PCB while the 9800 GX2 uses 2 PCB

IMO, we would see a performance leap from the 8M to 9M ONLY IF it use the ............ say G102 core :-"

I`m on ATI on this one also. Nvidia`s prices make laser holes in the average Joe`s pocket.

Yeah, as said above, it's basically 2 8800M GTS's shrunk a bit and crammed onto one card. I don't see how they could shrink it any more to offer it as a 'single card' laptop solution.

There will undoubtably be a 9-series high-end laptop card, but it's pure guesswork as to what it'll be like. 8800M GTX will be top of the heap for quite some time. Consider the 8800M series were announced over 6 months before they first shipped....it'll be a long time before we see high-end 9-series cards.

Honestly, some of the true 9 series, not the rebranded 8 series cores cards, have been updated pretty well such as mid end cards now having 256 bit bus, a big bonus to the laptop gaming scene. I would worry more about if these cards are compatible with my notebook then how well they perform.

Regarding if the 9800 with "dual" gpu's ability to fit in laptop, I am sure it will make it into laptops eventually but probably with a redesigned core, and has to have a "special" (bulk), case to make it fit. (m1730 anyone?, it is huge).

On a side note, I hope dell release the 9600m GT drop in mode for Vostro series seeing that it has a removable graphic compartment in a year or so,will be right on time for an upgrade. *Fingers Crossed*

The mobile 8800GTS *IS* the 9600GT. And as others have mentioned, you already can get as close as you're going to get to that 9800gx2 thing, in the XPS 1730 with dual Geforce mobile 8800GTX cards (which are basically 8800GT cards).
