Hi, Basically I need to know what MXM my 240M is. I want to upgrade to a 5870 and understand I need MXM 3.0 type B. I want to sell my 240M though and was wondering would it be the same, MXM 3.0 or not?

    Thanks

MXM 3.0 Type A so you're not going to be something much better than that.

    Do you mean I can't get a 5870? I'm sure I can. Plus I don't want a 280 or 260. I'm sure a 5870 will fit though. I've seen some people say get a M15X with a 240M because it's cheaper and then upgrade to 5870. And I was going to buy someone's M15X who had upgraded from 240 to 5870.

Ah, an M15X, yeah I heard those can handle a 5870. I wasn't sure which laptop you had since laptops that come with a certain MXM card can usually only handle that certain type due to space restraints.
