I am using the GeForce Go 7400 (256 Mb) on my new laptop HP DV6000t. Nvidia drivers are up to date (Forceware 86.38).

I plug my TV on the S-Video output and I only see white lines on the screen. I am sure a signal is getting to the TV because if I unplug the S-Video cable, the screen goes black.
I tried all the different settings in the nView desktop manager: the TV is there as a secondary monitor, although the signal defaults to HDTV, I set it to NTSC for the same result...

The weirdest thing is that when I send the laptop into hibernation, the low-res XP logo "prepapring to hibernate" that displays right before turning off shows on both my screen and the TV!!

    Please help!

There will be a quick key on your notebook that cycles through all the Video outputs and adjusts the appropriate settings.

It is Fn... + someother key.

On my laptop, its Fn + F8.

Right; you need to switch the output by using the function key (Fn), and one of the F keys up top. Check your owners manual for reference.

I tried the toggle key, it just switches from black to "dancing white lines", back to black.
I have also made sure it's set on S-Video, NTSC.

I would think there's something wrong with my TV but, like I said, the low-res WIN XP logo shows just fine when going into hibernation.
I don't think it has anything to do with it but I deleted the recovery partition (I have the recovery DVDs) and also got rid of the SWSETUP folder that has all the original software installation files.

Feel free to keep sending the suggestions, I'll try anything!

Have you tried contacting HP support about this? When I had an HP, I used their email support system and it was very fast. You'll get responses back within an hour.
They are also decent to talk to over the phone.

I did try their online chat support yesterday and after only a few minutes they ended up saying I should take the laptop to an authorized HP seller to have it looked at since it seems it seems to be a physical problem.

I was hopeful last night when after changing the resolution to the max (1920x1080) I could see part of the desktop in black and white and I could even move my cursor there. Been downhill since then, I can't even get that anymore...

I will try with my small TV but first I need to get an adapter S-Video/Composite since it's an older model.
I really don't have much hope though...

I was looking around and I found an older thread that seems to correspond to our problems: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win98/t1004619396

Check out the post from "Dualies Man" that seems to say that the multiple monitors in the device manager are creating the problem. The worst part is that they had not found any solution... it was a year ago... AAAARRRGGHHH!

Okay, I finally had it to work!! I am not sure what the problem was but here is what I did:
    - I uninstalled the nVidia GeForce Go 7400 from the device manager.
Note: At that time the driver version was Forceware 8638. I had tried yesterday to roll back the driver to the previous version (8602) since I had the TV to work once before applying the gazillion windows updates...to no avail. I then upgraded it back to the current 8638.
    - when XP restarted it was, I believe, in native mode (low-res) and a pop-up window informed me a new device was found. At that time it was apparently re-installing the video card without asking me.
    - When I got to the dreaded DISPLAY icon in the control panel, I attached the TV as a secondary, clicked APPLY... and it worked!!
    - the forceware newly installed is the older 8602. The last thing I am going to do is upgrade it again!

I really hope this solves all your problems, Metal. Let me know how it goes for you!
