How much gaming improvement should I notice if I replace my current notebook with another one that has the following spec.

    Original notebook (Sony SZ-381P):
GeForce Go 7400 (64 MB Dedicated VRAM)
    2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo T7600

    Replacement notebook (Sony FZ4000 CTO):
GeForce Go 8400M GT (256 MB Dedicated VRAM)
    2.6 GHz Core 2 Duo T9500

Both notebooks have 3GB RAM and 1280x800 native resolution.

Also, is it really worth it to put a T9500 in laptop with an 8400GT?

Suggest you don't buy the new one. You already have a very capable machine there.

if you are looking for gaming, try getting a better gpu. 8400 series is pretty much bottom acceptable barrel. Meanwhile, the penryn processor is wayyy overkill.

    8600m gt or better
    core 2 duo @ 2ghz or more
2 GB ram xp / 3 GB of ram vista
Im pretty sure that will do you well.

I would if they could make it weighs less than 6 pounds. From my research, FZ is the most powerful notebook that weighs less than 6 pounds and has built in Blu-Ray drive.

Actually I had a Go 7400 machine with 256mb dedicated and now have an 8400M GS with 256mb dedicated. The 8400M is noticeably better than the 7400, not only that but the one you pointed out, the 8400M GT is 128-bit compared to the 7400 and 8400M GS so the second machine will game MUCH better than the first - trust me. If you're not a hardcore gamer, the 8400M GT will be very good for you.

8400GT should be easily more than twice as first as 7400 - which, IMO, still is not worth upgrading - but it is up to you. 8400GT is a decent card - compared to DDR2 8600GT, DDR3 8400GT performs about 25% less.

Like others, you dun need an update atm. Wait for the 9400M (if you are going for >= 13.3")

Unfortunately though the vast majority of the 8400M's out there are GS or G, and not the 128-bit GT. My Quadro FX 360m is based on a 64-bit G86. Boy what I wouldn't do to have a full fledged 8400M GT.

Don't even think of 7 series now. You'll need a good DX10 card to run the latest titles. So get the 8400 at the very least, if not the 8600. But don't expect great performance.
