    Hi guys,

Just a noob question: the Go 7900GS's in the notebooks like E1705, p105, Alienwares, etc, are the same card of the used in desktops?

    Thanks

well, for one the mobile cards are downclocked (sometimes significantly) with respect to their desktop counter parts. they have additional power saving optimizations as well (such as underclocking while on battery), and maybe even a slightly different amount of memory or pipelines.

but the bottom line is that the 7900gs is a beast of a notebook card, and should play just about anything out there with little to no problem. i'm guessing that even Oblivion would play great on that card.

I wish they fit into 15.4"!

BTW, the mobile cards are a different build & size than the desktop cards...you can't just get a laptop that would hold a desktop card either. if they did though...:drools at the thought:

and in most cases laptop cards are not upgradeable...but with the 7900gs i doubt you'd want an upgrade for a LONG time.

    hope that helps!

I think "Go" indicates mobile, which implies mobile concessions...

I imagin the chip is quite different too, for the fact that desktop cards need 2 power connections and draw a ton of power while emitting tons of heat. Laptop chips need to draw like a quarter of the power or less (at full load) and have speed steping built in for even tighter power consumption.
