I'm interested in getting the 7950 GTX for my current laptop (see below) to upgrade the 7900 GS. It seems that for the upcoming game Crysis, while I cannot divulge details, it nonetheless considered my card...LOW-END. To think that this is the same card that ran Bioshock on Max Settings with no problems...

Anyway, about the 7950, I know the first and foremost place to get one is obviously from Dell themselves. That's all well and fine, but I'd like to know if there is a place where I can get one that might be cheaper. I've also checked eBay, but unfortunately, at the time of this posting, there is none available.

    Any ideas?

Oh, but I can. I've read the walkthroughs on how to do it to a Inspiron 9400, and it does work. I just need to get my hands on one of them...

you could update to the t7600 also....would def improve speed

core 2 duo 2.33ghz or the t7600G which is 2.33ghz but you can overclock it (unlocked multiplier)

uhh you shouldn't talk about reading sticky's cuz it says that inspiron 9400's can easily upgrade their cards :D

There is a abundance of them to buy on ebay too.

I myself have a Quadro Fx2500m built on the G71 chip same as the 7900gtx I have it overclocked to 650/750 and can kill at any game I play. it is essentially a 7950 oc'd now.

since the 7900gtx and the 7950 are the same cards except for the slight overclock of 75mhz core/ 100mhz mem. and of course it supports HDCP.

The i9400 can accomodate a dual heatpipe card easily by breaking off 2 little pieces of plastic

here is an instructional manual on upgrading cards in the dell 9400/e1705.
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Case-S...ard-of-a-Dell-Inspiron-E1705-9400.4187.0.html
I benchmarked my card on notebookforums against someone with an m1730 and my card is going head to head with his at 1900x1200 resolutions in bioshock and oblivion.

you can't over clock it (7600g) unless you have an m1710. and the bios is not transflashable between the e1705/9400--->m1710 and vise versa.

Please refer to the search before you make such a useless post. There are several post about members upgrading their dell 9400 to a 7950 gtx.
You can get a 7950 gtx from ebay, make sure you buy one thats specifically meant for a dell. The other option is to buy one from Dell directly, from the XPS tech support number you can order a spare part 7950 gtx. I would actually recommend ordering from dell instead of off ebay since you never know what you are getting into with ebay items and the price is almost the same anyways. You will also need purchase a xps m1710 power supply to do this upgrade.

Anybody know exactly what Dell charges for the 7950 GTX and the 130W Power Supply? I'd rather not call them and be on hold forever just to find out the prices...

    2much bud

    get off of ebay.

i paid 30bux for the 150w psu, and 200 bux for the 7900gtx.

threre is alot of good dealers on ebay.. newgeardeals is great... they always have cards for sale at good prices.

plus.. if you get a dual heatpipe card from dell, (if the even give it to you) for your 9400/e1705. it voids warranty cuz of the mod you have to do on your base.

It wont void anything as long as you restore the system to original state "If you send it to them". A 500$ upgrade vs a 1000-2000$ brand new laptop is well worth it.
Also instead of just telling someone to look at the stickies like mod "whitch you aren't" Just give him his answer and ask him to look at the stickies first next time.

Isnt crysis all about the use of DX10 making it great? 7950gtx=dx9
Unless the OP doesnt care. No flammage necessary.

Crysis should still look just fine at high DX9 settings.

And there are no DX10 cards offered for the OP's laptop, so I'm not really sure what you're getting at.

As of right now, DX9 and DX10 pretty much look the same...there is no obvious benefit of going DX10.

not like the 8600gt can handle crysis at high

even doubt that the 8700gt in sli will run it at high at 1680x1050
