Alright, I'm either buying a Sager 5760 Laptop that has the GeForce Go 7950 GTX 512MB Ram in it OR a Toshiba Satellite P100-ST9742 that has a GeForce Go 7900 GTX 512MB Ram.

I'm kind of leaning towards the Toshiba since it is a name brand, but didn't know if I would really be compromising on gaming since it has a slightly older card.

I want to be able to play Half Life 2, HL2 EP1 + EP2, Oblivion, and other DirectX 9 games at their highest settings smoothly.

So which laptop should I buy? Is the Go 7950 GTX really all that better or can I live fine with what I want to do with the Go 7900 GTX.

    Thanks.

Also which is better for gaming glossy cover OR non-glossy covers?

There's nothing different between the two, the 7950gtx is basically an overclocked version of the 7900gtx.

As for the laptops the Sager 5760 is much better in pretty much every way. The build quality, features, upgradability, and screen are much better. If you can pay the extra i'd go for the 5760.

That's personal preference; personally I prefer glossy because brightness and contrast are better. Reflections are not a problem for me.

As posted, you're not going to see a noticeable difference between the Go7900GTX and the Go7950GTX. What exactly is the price difference between the Toshiba and the Clevo?

The Clevo is the better-looking product. If you're willing to shell out a bit more, you'll get a much more high-quality product.

Unfortunately on the P105, Toshiba sacrifices build quality for price reductions.

all of the specs in the toshiba and the sager would be exactly the same in the models i've found and customized.

    they would have a:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00Ghz processor
    2Gb of RAM
    100GB Hard Drive (7200 rpm)
    17in 1680 X 1050 LCD screen
    the Toshiba's screen in glossy
    the Sager's screen is matte
anyway everything else other than screen and graphics card is the same.
the only thing that scares me with the sager is the weight maybe (since it weighs 2.5 lbs more than the Toshiba), being too loud from the fans, and getting a dead pixel or something.

not to be a jerk, but price really isn't a major issue.
here's the thing, i have $2200 in the bank already that has been there for awhile and that i have been using to save up for a laptop. my parents are going to help me out with the rest like $800 - $1000

i can get the sager 5760 with an extra battery with all the specs i mentioned for $2600. i can get the toshiba andd an extra battery with it for $2933. but the other night i asked my dad if i could get a $250 gigabeat when or if we would purchase the toshiba and we was like probably. so i dunno at this point i kind of am leaning towards the toshiba.

*** oh and on the toshiba i'm pretty sure you can't turn off the touch-pad, so would i still be able to hook up a wireless, external USB mouse?

You definitely can turn the mousepad off - it just doesn't have a special external button for it.

If the Toshiba is more expensive, definitely go for the Sager. A much higher quality machine. Not that I'm knocking toshiba, I love mine, but build quality is definitely not first priority for them. PLus with the better GPU on the Sager it's a no brainer really.

not to be rediculous, but could someone who owns a sager maybe make a quick video of hl2 gaming in action, so i could an idea of how it is and how loud the fans are

if you guys don't want to you don't have to though =]

oh and is there really a big difference between a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00Ghz and 2.33Ghz? is it worth spending the money to upgrade?

    thanx

No its not worth the cost of upgrading to a t7600 from a t7200.

It's going to be very hard to discern how much fan noise there is from a video. You'll have to read more reviews to get a wider range of opinions. We have several reviews of the Clevo. Search for Sager NP5760 and a few should come up.

    alright thanks guys

if i did get a sager, i would probably get it from powernotebooks.com because they seem like a pretty great company. anyway if some reason i didn't like it, i could return it within 30 days right? hopefully that wouldn't happen, but just in case right?

oh and i am having the hardest time of finding reviews of the EXACT toshiba model i'm looking at. my dad wants to place an order this weekend (or sooner) so i'm really trying to narrow down things and pick the better of the two.

Sager is more powerful, has a better card and is cheaper. Why do you want a toshiba?

hey where go you guys suppose i order the sager from (should i decide to go with that one)?

i was thinking powernotebooks.com since their customer satisfaction seems top notch.

if i do get a sager i just hope its not real loud and doesn't have dead pixels. =]

Frankly, the Sager will not be any louder than the Toshiba, and given Toshiba's lacking build quality these days, I would imagine the Sager would be less likely to have any dead/stuck pixels or other major flaws. It is frankly a better notebook all around, and at over $300 less than the Toshiba, this decision is patently obvious. As for where to buy, Powernotebooks.com does seem to be a popular choice.

on CNET they said that the Toshiba P100-ST9742 is probably one of the lighest 17in notebooks around and weighs 7.1 lbs over Sager's 9.4 lbs, so the Toshiba does have some advantages over the Sager. but i don't know if i'd be comfortable with the "sunlight copper" laptop lid.

1920x1200 is so good looking, you'll wish you got it if you didn't, the higher res the better, you can see more, do more, and play better (cause you have so much more visibility).

And if I got a laptop before the dx10 stuff comes out, I'd get an XPS1710, because it has the Nvidia 7950 GTX, which is the best mobile video card that is out right now. But thats not something your looking at so there is no reason to get an XPS if you're going dell, it will just cost more, if you want to go dell get an inspiron (personally I like dell).

I don't think he was looking at a dell at all. And yes, he is looking at a laptop (Clevo 570U) that has 7950GTX, and by all accounts the clevo is a better built and better priced machine than the xps.
