GeForce Hotfix display driver version 466.79 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 466.77.

The hotfix addresses the following issue:
    • Display may flicker or lose signal when launching a game on an adaptive-sync VRR monitor in multi-monitor configuration when sharing the same display mode [3314055]

That is the worst false take ever. The only OEM customization is maybe the .inf, it's not like they are recompiling the driver from source. They do it so they don't have to support people updating drivers to the one they didn't "approve" in QA, it's all about money spent on support. And there are both Notebook and Desktop driver packages from nVidia's site IIRC, I had totally forgotten they had notebook specific builds until recently. I'm sure it's mainly the same exact driver though.

I dunno I've installed using their installers and sometimes through GFE (it's the same installer..), sometimes with the clean install option, just to get rid of whatever Windows does by default through it's own driver install, and I've never had an issue. In fact nVidia's clean install option cleaned up what MS did by default when I built this desktop a couple weeks ago. Whatever they did was causing a an issue with AC:S giving me a Bad Image error with one of the nvidia files that was hanging out in C:\Windows\System32. So good on nv to add that option it guess it helped.

People have been believing that nonsense for years. Notebook OEMs do not develop drivers of any kind and the most they might ever do is mod the INF on a new model released between driver versions. Alienware engineers have said as much publicly and it has been posted here and in other communities before. But, it seems like Dell and Alienware owners believe that silliness more than most. I am not sure why.
