I've read lots of threads about overclocking GPUs, and I was wondering if my little go7300 could be overclocked.

Also, which will be the benefits and cons of doing that?

Does it have any sense at all?

in a laptop... i doubt it... you might be able to if you apply arctic silver 5 between the gpu and the heatsink, and then push it up a notch... thats about it... its a low end card... you won't get much more out of it... unless you take a look at its features figure out whats being degraded... and then be able to "unlock" some of those features... but i doubt that can happen, worth a shot though if your looking into that...

The benefits of overclocking your GPU is a higher level of performance in games and 3D applications.

There is the risk of frying your GPU if you take it too far though. If you are looking into doing this, take it slow and be careful not to go too far if you start to see artifacting.

I would stick to tweaks and aftermarket drivers. OC'ing voids the warranty and as stated you run the risk of frying your laptop. It is a low end card, and mostly low end cards dont yield good oc'ing (e.g. my old x1300 desktop and little bros x300 desktop). I have tried oc'ing 2 different desktop cardsd with awsome cooling and ventilation and the gains werent worth it at all.

I have no experience with the 7300, but the 7400 in my wife's laptop OCs really well, and gives a HUGE boost in gameplay, to the point that FEAR combat actually looks pretty sweet on it.

I say go for it, as long as you know what you're doing

Well, I can only speak or my Go7400 (which is basically a faster version of the Go7300) and I can achieve a real life performance gain of around 10-15% with overclocking of the GPU. This help alot sometimes when you are right on the edge of stuttering, from 23 to 26 fps means alot. Tru, the 7300 and 7400 are not very fast, mainly because they lack a lot of pipelines and bandwith but they are very ok.

I can play GTR2 on max detail and Company of Heroes on med-max (textures on med, other on max) no problem with my Go7400 if I bump up the speed a little.

On the downside the system gets warmer though because the GPU gets hotter and heats up the entire system with it. So I only do it when at home and using an Akasa Notebook cooler (without my cpu core temp rises to 73 when playing COH for a while, with it it barely goes above 65).

@sublime: Hey, how far can you bring the Go7400 from stock speeds of 450/700?

I would like to know this too, and how exactly you go about OCing a laptop card :)

It would be interesting to know how far can 7300 overclock. Will it overclock-able like 7400?

I can OC my Go7400 from stock speeds of 450/900 to 531/1080. That is 18%/20% increase and the performance is increased from 10-40% for gaming and benchmarks.

    3dmark05
    stock - 1800
    OC - 2300

    Aquamark
    stock - 32000
    OC - 44250

    Games after OC:

    Quake 4 - 1024*768, high quality
    avg fps - 38-39

    Half life 2 - 1400*1050, max quality
    avg fps - 55-75

NFSC - 1280*960, AA off, max settings
    avg fps - 20-25

    AOE3 - 1400*1050, max settings
    avg fps - 14-22

CS: Source, 1400*1050, max settings, 29bots
    avg fps - 22-25
