Gears of War Help Needed

Dear friends, i having annoying problem with gears of war. i have got the game...first i tried to instal it and it gave me some funny errors about dll (i guess) files missing. i restarted my pc and endedup in successfully installing it. after installation game started as well but it shut down after a minute. i have reisntalled the game but same thing. i downladed patch as well but same thing. did someone else experienced same thing.

my pc specs are intel quad core 2.4 ghz, 3 gb memory, geforce 8800 gt 512 mb, 750 gb hard drive. thanks in advance.

 

What OS are you using?
Here is a patch for Vista, which is a must have for this game. This is most likely what causes the problem. Also, if you still haven't installed SP1, I recommend you do so. It includes a few bug fixes from NVidia.

 

hanx ddt....i m using vista....i have downloaded nvidia drivers but i cant use net on my pc for some reason. i wil download that patch from my laptop...thanx for the help.

hm...is it vista 64bit or 32bit? Also, are you using English version of Vista or some other?

That is weird, Hardcore. While you are trying to fix that problem, I would recommend on you getting Crysis. With those system specs, you should be able to run it on high settings. GOW is fun though.

 

hm...that means, that that patch should work on your system. That's weird.
The only thing I can suggest is to try to install latest DX and try to install different video drivers.

As a Loyal Xbox360 Gears fan, In my opinion, Gears of war is 2 things.

On the Xbox 360 - The best game ever created - Period.

On the PC - The worst, most buggy, glitchy, problem ridden mismatch of code I have ever tried to install on any of my machines

(and I'm certainly not alone, Google it, and you'll soon see)

If you're really bored, return it to the store as not fit for purpose, and I'm sure you'll win.

But it doesn't matter. Epic games are only concerned about creating future games for "Next Gen" consoles. The PC is not their priority. - Yeah, that's quite obvious.

I'm really looking forwards to Gears 2 on my 360, but unfortunately, they still havent finished the project that they plucked up the courage to call "Gears of War" for the PC.

Epic - Please either admit you can't do it, and I'll write off my investment in the PC version, or give us a patch.

You make a great point Thun3r; I enjoyed that game, but it's those kind of glitches and problems that can ruin the experience, and make one just toss the damn thign aside. How do you like UT3?

 

Thanks for the suggestion guys....zee ukranian...i have already finished crysis.. ...that was a good game (not one of the best though). i may sound weird but i found far cry better and i m waiting for far cry 2. i wanted to play gears of war as well but just my luck. i was slightly disappointed when my machine refused to play gears of war coz i solely buy that machine for gaming after around 8-9 months research. i still have piles of games from more than one year which i have yet to play but gears of war was one of those game on top of my list that i was really keen to play.

 

You did everything you could, Hardcore. It's not your systemt to balme, but the horrible conversion from 360 to PC. I know the feeling because I was looking forward to that game before it came out on the 360. Good game.

 

Here are few tips that "helped" me when I was troubledshooting the game myself.

1. Make sure you are not forcing Tripple buffering in DirectX
2. Make sure start.exe (in the GoW/binary directory) is NOT set to XP compatibility mode.
3. Make sure to allow internet connection at the start up of the game

Also, does the game give any error when it exit? I usually gets the war-gowlive.blah blah blah error.

 

I am usually not a MP kind of guy but I am enjoying the string of Bot matches laid out for me in the SP campaign of UT3. The action is fast and fairly challenging. The graphics are great and it runs smooth as silk on my laptop. I also enjoyed UT2K4 but in no way am I hardcore about UT. I know many UT enthusiasts seemed disappointed with UT3 but for me it is worth the $30 I paid for it, and a nice diversion from the usual story driven FPS on rails.

As you say Gears could have been pretty fun but the bugs ruined it. :\

 

Was there a reason why UT fans were disappointed?

 

Biggest reason would be the lack of the Assualt game. This was for many the best feature of UT2K4 and its absence in UT3 was a mind bender for many. Nonetheless I am finding UT3 a lot of fun. And I think I should see if there are MP matches of hoverboard races online as that would be pretty sweet

 

I agree that UT3 is a good game that runs flawlessly on my G1S, and is probably my favourite PC game. But for me, it will never capture the immersive atmosphere of Gears on the 360. Having said that it's not fair to make the comparison, OK they're both UE3, but two completely different game types.

 

Maybe you could contribute your opinion in the direction of my Poll, Very hardcore.

hello everybody...I just install gow for the third time and after it finishs it is suppose to run the game, but it doesn't. My problem is that the logo that should appear on the desktop does not appear and I am promt to "double click on Startup.exe to run the game. Anybody has the same problem?

 

go to the game's directory and run Startup.exe , it happened to me once, after i did that on startup.exe the error never came up again
