I'm interested to know how many still have problems with getting Gears of War to run well enough to be playable and enjoyable on their machine. I'm sure most of us are aware of a couple of common issues (Stuttering & Crashing). Just how bad is this ?

P.S. The poll is purely about performance issues. Please don't vote if you have never owned the game, and only vote if your machine is of sufficient specification. Also, if you just don't like the game, please do not vote it down for this reason. Let's keep it fair.

Not to hijack the thread, but how well does it run on an 8600M GT DDR2? What settings? Resolution? Thanks

I'm sure it could run maxed out (without AA/AF) on a mid resolution :)

On Vista, you can max everything out, and get around 20-30 FPS average, as low as 13 and as high as 38~40ish without DX10, I have not gotten to the later part of the game yet so I can't comment for the suppose laggier segment. It is very smooth, I am about half way through the game already, and no I didn't experience any issue getting it to run.

FYI: Even though I had no issue, my brother had problem getting his game to start; we just found out that if you enable XP compatibility mode under Vista, it WILL crash the game with a Windows live error message. Hope this tip help someone somewhere. :p

With an overclocked 8600 I was able to run it with medium shadows at 1680 x 1050. Mid 20s fps, if I remember correctly.

The game runs very well (on an X1600, most settings on high at 1078 res- 20-30 fps) but that windows live thing ruined it because it would close itself every 5-20 min.

1280x800 Maxed settings,no AA , around 35-40 fps average according to fraps(with cpu at 2,4 ghz ,at 2,0 about 5 frames lower)

Crashed only once at the cutscene before you fight the last boss.

The Unreal engine is probably the best one around right now.
