    Hello People

    I have tweaked around with Gears of War to run with less stutter on my XPS M1730 8800m GTX SLI setup for a while now. With this I will describe here my stutter is much less than it were before, now the game is actually playable.

    I thought I would share what I did with you folks and if it does work for anyone of you SLI as Single users please give me at least a +1 rep ;)

    I run the game in DX10 and in Vista by the way

    You would need to download Nhancer too, doesn´t matter that some doesn´t run SLI, Nhancer is a great util with lots of profiles for games.

    Drivers used: TweakForce´s XG 175.63 Vista 32bit
    -------------------------------------------------

    Step 1:

    Document\My Games\Gears of War for Windows\Wargame\Config\WarEngineUserSettings.ini

    Under [SystemSettings]

    Change OneFrameGPULag=TRUE to False

    Then Paste this at the bottom of the ini file

    [Engine.ISVHacks]
    bInitializeShadersOnDemand=TRUE
    DisableATITextureFilterOptimizationChecks=True
    UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=True
    PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=TRUE

    Step 2:

    Nhancer Profile for Gears of War:
    ---------------------------------

    Choose Options and Allow Override of predefined settings in Nhancer first.
    -------------------------------------

    Now to the actual profile

    Optimizations Tab:
    ------------------

    Texture Filtering High Performance, you can set to High Quality too if you want.

    Set Negative LOD BIAS to Clamp

    Set Prerender Limit to 1

    Under Compatibility Tab:
    ------------------------

    OpenGL Multi Display Mode to Optimized for single display modes

    CPU Multi Core support to Multi core

    I hope it works for you, it sure did for me.

    My stuttering was fixed closing visual studio and firefox, I'm sure that if I had put a 2 gb stick on my computer there would be no stuttering. But is good to see that more people can enjoy this game!

    are you sure you have to do all those steps? I had the same problem. Then all I did was go to

    Document\My Games\Gears of War for Windows\Wargame\Config\WarEngineUserSettings.ini

    Under [SystemSettings]

    Change OneFrameGPULag=TRUE to False

    and that fixed the shutrering. Are you sure you have to do all those steps?

    Yes it did for me at least with SLI turned on of course. Probably it will only benefit SLI users. Though as you said OneFrameGPULag=TRUE to False will probably fix for single card users. Didn´t fix it for me, I had to test myself different combinations and that is what I came up with :)

    Though of course there is not many notebook SLI users here on the forum, brainer is one of them and I am another :)

    Also the game maybe stutters less in XP than in Vista, I haven´t installed XP myself yet though to test it out, but this definitely worked out for me in Vista.
