I'm trying to play the PC version of Gears of War, and I found that it only stutters if I'm playing in DirectX 9 not DirectX 10

However, when I switch to DirectX 10, the only resolution available to me is my native resolution at 1600x900

If I game at that resolution, I get a consistent ~18fps.

However, if I'm playing DirectX 9, at 1280x768, I can get like ~30-40 fps, but it stutters every 20 seconds or so. Its not because of the firefights or anything, because it can be smooth walking or shooting, but then it stutters.

What I'm trying to say is that I want to enable DirectX 10 AND at 1280x768 resolution. Is this possible?

    Things I've tried:
    Powerstrip software (didn't work)
Changing my resolution to 1280x768 and then entering the game...automatically switches back to 1600x900 DirectX 10

I actually can't update to any drivers that works on both graphic cards I have in my laptop.

If I use any other drivers, both of my card don't seem to work.

Unless I use unsupported drivers in which I have to consistently log into vista's x64's test mode

How can we tweak the game, I could also use a performance boost / more eye candy ;)

By editing the config files, because I have no idea what to change
Some tips would be most appreciated magnus

Have you tried new drivers Plis an overclock? That might get you over the edge.

Yes I have edited the config files. There´s quite a lot you can change. But I have increased the texture resolution and tried other different settings. Added some new commands I found on the UT3 forum and such.

Like I said in the previous post, I can't try new drivers because then both my graphic cards don't work all of a sudden. It's something about hybrid graphics and windows that don't play nicely together.

Not looking to really overclock since I'm just trying to find a way to run it at a lower resolution at DirectX 10.

If I run it in the lower resolution at DirectX 9, I get playable framerates 30-40fps, but I get stutters. It's just the way the game was coded. If I play it at DirectX 10, its stutter free but at only 18fps only
