Ok, I bought the gears of war for pc, but I can't connect to the live servers, I already set up a account, but all I get is this message:

The LIVE service is not available. Try again later. For current status of the LIVE service, go to www.xbox.com/support.

I have done what the message suggests, and tried some of the help I found there(tried the number one option from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935310/en-gb), still without success.

I finished the casual campaign but I want to go online.

    Thanks

I had the same problem, and it was caused by the Firewall in my Internet Security software (Trend Micro).

My solution was to set up a rule to allow Incoming & Outcoming TCP/UDP for

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries\Wargame-G4WLive.exe

After that, the connection to live was fine, although the game itself is another story.

heh heh ain't that the truth. I think GoW was an experiment to see how far people will go just to play a game. Total POS IMO. Not sure if it's an argument for or against PC gaming? Are we dumbasses for buying such junk and spending way too much time just trying to play it, or are PC gamers so hardcore they should rule the world? Ok sorry to hijack ...

I personally liked the game, did run it on max with 60+ FPS all time, BUT as most gamers who played this game, the FPS spikes are unforgivable, and LIVE bugs are infinite.

My post wasn't a dig at PC gaming, I've unintentionally caused countless xbox v PC slanging matches previously, and I don't even want to go there, but I bought the game because Gears on the 360 was and still is my favourite shooter ever, but I was also plagued with the FPS spikes, and random judders when I played it on my laptop. So much so that I've uninstalled it, and put it down to a bad experience. I'm not going to attempt to install that mess on my desktop. I now use my original GEARS PC DVD as a beer mat - Honestly, I'm not joking !. The gameplay would be smooth, but just frequently, especially before the camera would pan to show some emerging threat, or reveal the next challenge, there would be unacceptable stutter. This continued until I progressed through a couple of chapters, and then the judder became terminal. The best thing I ever described the PC version as was an unfinished project. Epic's Gears forum has countless threads suggesting Nvidia driver updates, Game patch installs, registry modifications, cfg file modifications, windows updates etc. I've given up. I'm sure there will now be plenty of posts from people saying they had no such problems, and if I was to install it on my desktop, then maybe I wouldn't, but I bought the PC version to play when I'm away from home, and my Asus G1S is capable spec. wise, but it just doesn't work.

I finished the campaign and the game was running fine, the only times it sttutered was when I alt+tabbed and the returned to the game, which I think is not a very bad problem(the games uses a lot of ram, so with my only 1.5 and using other programs together I was specting a bit of sttuter). The game looked ok with all settings medium and a 960x600 resolution.

This game has a lot of bugs. I suggest Unreal Tournament 3. Slightly better graphics than GOW, not buggy, and an amazing multiplayer shooter.
