The Geforce upcoming this year 4th quater 2009 is suppose to be supporting the new cuda technology 3.0 which in other words mean up to past all gpu till date will have an end to cuda support after 2.9 version there wont be the 3.0 version....
The Geforce 300 series also will be or should be the first chipset to completely support Directx 10.1 and on fair support for directx 11....Similar to Directx 9.0 cards been given Directx 10 support.
Which in other words we will see the directx 11 GPU not well before 2nd half 2010 fully supporting ones.

Whats all your idea about GDDR5 technology deos it really make an impact in gaming or its just similar in performance to GDDR3?????

As, an as the topic expands we can have all deep discusions out here....Reason because people can get a brief idea before they buy something in the market.....

Sorry, if ther are any errors please do corect me for any mistakes but the above info abt the current year is based on nvidia roadmap for 2009 but 2010 is what we can predict, Since we all know now for past 11yrs since the company started operation in Graphics cards we know what they think and how they do it.

direct x 9 cards were NOT given direct x 10 support.

directx is not forwards compatible. new versions tend to require new hardware.

other than that, there is really no point in speculating the numbers. unless you are an engineer, they really don't mean anything except that "in the future computers will be faster".

See you have to under stand that engineering and coding is two different section what engineering wants they wont end up getting....I didnt mean just changing numbers or any sort of backward or forward compatiblity....I meant the support in the drivers....Inother word the chassis for 300 series chipset will be based on current requirement of microsoft inorder to support dx 11 but microsoft always changes there plan at the end.....They might end up modifying later on in which case a whole new chassis/architecture will be designed to give more performance then previous one...........

Well you do have the world fastest core 3ghz quad core processor and they are also coming up with clarksfield and there larrabiee chipset processor....Inother words more is there to expect from the future in next 1 year or so from today...

There are also laptop equipped with Raid 0, Raid 1 support to support more then 1TB of harddisk......

So, we are somewhat in future already..........

Also, please excuse me for any error I am mentioning again as I aint working for Nvidia or Intel or Microsoft....But, Iwanna have the discussion out here for others to get some info.....

    aint I correct???

Keep in mind you are talking about the desktop GPUs. It usually takes a while for Nvidia to come out with the mobile versions.

The most likely scenario is that the 300M series will be largely a rename of the the current 200M series but shrinked to 40nm. This is not necessary bad, it will probably mean something like the current mid-range video cards ( 9600M/130M) being replaced by a 40nm 9800M GS due to the smaller die and cheaper manufacturing - this is a good leap for notebooks, not in technology but in performance. Also it is very likely that the top end video card will be something based on the G 216 / 192 core ( the desktop 260).

The nvidia 40nm series is scheduled for q3/4 of 2009.

The 300 desktop series transition to notebooks will probably be out sometime in autumn next year (1 year and a half from now) so I would get my hopes too high.

    There you have it :)

But, I also heard that mobile version might be difficult because of the heat issues.....But, I guess they do have something good stored for mxm 2 slots because mostly all 15.4inch laptop have mxm 2 type slot.....So, basically a rebadge but on smaller die shrink and higher clock rates for desktop and mobile would also be similar I guess........

Arent they gonna come out with 512-bit interface for memory and GDDR5 like ATi there rival already has GDDR5 out in cards for both desktop as well as laptop.

    WoW I didn;t know that.

However VRZone has gotten other Nvidia speculations wrong ... And it doesn't make sense for Nvidia to go mobile 40nm as long as they haven't mastered the desktop cores on 40nm.

Although... the notebook market is now larger than the PC market so... maybe they will have a shift in policy. Instead of going desktop to mobile they will go mobile to desktop.

All in all, I am looking forward to these 40nm cores. I will put on hold my order for the 280M :D.

Oh, and Nvidia is pushing for 3.0 MXM versions. Only if manufacturers want to do 1.0 or 2.1 versions will you see GPUs with that specification.

So, Blacky deos that mean future 15inch laptop will have mxm 3.0 deos that mean we can ask our manfacturer like in my case to acer to remove mxm 2.1 slot out of mother board and fix a mxm 3.0.......Any possibilities on that!!!!

Well, there are already laptops out with the 3.0 MXM slot or about to go out. But I don't know if the MXM slot can be removed and replaced, I'm pretty sure it's solder to the motherboard. Chances are you will need a new motherboard for the 3.0 version which for most laptops means... a new laptop. Sorry.

Rumor is the GT 240M is what was supposed to be the GT215 or GT216 architecture for desktop cards. If they were available in desktop trim, it would replace the desktop Geforce 9500-9600 range. However they don't have specs on the key components of the architecture yet.

Comparing the highest end of ATi's desktop range to Nvidia's mid-range notebook offerings isn't exactly going to instigate competition.

    If it's 40nm and 256-bit, I'm interested.

Why don't we discuss the 5, 6, or 700 series? They will be obviously far better.

People, when manufactures say release in Q1 2010, you don't touch the actual product till Q4 2010 the earliest, and that's one and half year from now. Not to mention the mobile versions will take even longer. So don't you think we better focus on something more recent?

But we got MXM 3.0 type A & B. Rite guys, which means either slot should hold higher watts capacity up to 80 watts.....May be we can see these coming in 18.4 inch laptop version and not the 17inch version.......Because higher the watt consumption and high clock rquire standalone cooling systems also....

    What u guys say???/

The point is not abt engineering.....we all have heat issues with the desktop version also..........Its high time now and the entire world is looking in for mobility and desktop isnt mobile.....Also, 10yrs back from now or 5yrs back many ppl didnt knw abt laptops or notebook...........but now its like notebook or laptop are on demand even for gaming purpose.............no one likes to have a bulky desktop to be carried any where.........

I believe you are wrong... Most people still preffer desktop for gaming and it is about engineering you can fit larger gpus in a desktop because with a big open tower sheer size is less of a factor there, heat is less of a factor, and power consumption is next to no factor (aside from it generates heat)! How often do you do some hardcore gaming at a bus station? at your house? more specific, a particular room in your house? or even just unplugged from the wall?

the benefits for mobile gaming are still quite limited though the novelty of it is GREAT :)

also EVERYBODY NEW ABOUT LAPTOPS 5-10 YEARS AGO LOL

sorry i should stop this is way off topic sorry bout that

That doesn't change the fact that notebook parts are first derived from their desktop brethren before miniaturized to fit the smaller chassis and cooling systems that notebook house. Like it or not desktops still outsell notebooks in total volume of sales so your "wish" isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Frankly 5-10 years ago it was possible to game on laptops, the difference being hardware then meant the gap wasn't as significant and the games being played weren't like Crysis requiring top-end hardware every 3 months to keep up.

Well said.........Applauses.......Well ther point I am trying to make is over the years the notebook sale is also significantly raising by volumes.....Thats true that mobile GPU depends on thier desktop GPUs...which is why???? still companies like Nvidia release there desktop drivers first and then in end the mobile drivers......But, my point is sooner or later this going to change....Its just going to be opposite soon like desktop GPU will have to depend on thier mobile version......since the technology it self is going smaller in size............it would be lot easier for a mobile GPU to be engineeried then the desktop GPU...

The driver situation from Nvidia has already changed, as the mobile drivers are now released simultaneously along side their desktop counterparts.

But the main issue blocking the desktop -> mobile conversion has been, and will be, power consumption.

Well i highly doubt that in the next 10years they will start modeling desktop components from notebook components LOL

Or ever for that matter. The time they start doing that is the time desktops will no longer exist and they won't have an opportunity to be modeled off of notebook components. think logically man...

There is always going to be a step or prototype that isn't quite ready for notebooks but will do just fine in a desktop do to size/heat/power. why would they wait to release it to desktop till after they do more work to fit it into a notebook???

Do you really think they are going to skip a few steps and stumble across a perfect tiny notebook component then say 'Hmmm lets make this a little less efficient and a bit clunkier to sell for desktops.'

Well, thats what I am trying to say...........Tell me one thing guys all of you experts or desktop lovers.............See in notebook case the GPU cards are limited by slot design not because of any heat/power issue but to maintain a fair ratio in performance..........Like a 2ghz processor cant handle a GTX 295m.......My point is thats not the case in desktop...........Imagine ppl having a c2d 1.8 processor in desktop with SLI 295 GTX enabled what type of worst performance ypur gonna have as one side being havier and other lighter........Its not gonna be a fair ration in balance..............Plus you all say that windows vista rating for hardware isnt accurate and 3dmarks is accurate.....Well, to all of you name one single GPU without sli that can run the game like crysis warhead at max resolution and max setting without any problem and achieve a min 80-90 FPS...........Windows vista rating has always been accurate........Think of this way why deosnt the GPU achieve 10/10 raiting in gaming graphics..........Reason, if that happen then all these so called games would achieve more then 120 fps min.............My point here is we dont know what the future has got for all of us..........may be a day will come when desktop will be a history and only mobile will be every where..........also, keep in mind that the smaller the size of board or compact it is the better the performance your gonna get out of it thier bay saving on power consumption and it can only happen with mobility nad not some big/giant machine.............Also, for laptop u do get after market parts that are better then the company parts for cooling in laptops.....

Guys I am not anti desktop..........I have my self 4 different desktop computers with me..........with different specification.............but I believe in tomorrow and not in present...........

Sorry, if I would have said something wrong out here to hurt you all.........

Anyone who claims the Vista games benchmark is accurate and uses the stream of consciousness style when making posts on a forum doesn't scream credibility in my eyes.

Heat/power issue is THE main issue behind the gap between notebooks and desktops, it all boils down to the physical size of notebook chassis compared to desktops. Spiel all you want about "fair ratio in performance" but you're ignoring the physical constraints binding notebook performance.

The post overall doesn't make sense either, it swings from desktop is better because of "fair ratio in performance" and "no desktop can run crysis warhead at max resolution" to "I am not anti-desktop". Giving allowance to the OP for English not being the native desktop, it still is difficult to understand the point some of these recent posts have been trying to push.

First off all I raised this thread to discuss on upcoming chipsets from nvidia the desktop version like the 300 series that have got special feature equppied like CUDA 3.0 and Dx.11 support added to there baselines.....

Under this thread we should be discussing more on GPU aspects the up coming and the current 9 series....

It's all speculation at this point. I would assume at the very least, we have announcement of a mobile 40nm high end GPU by Q4. It seems much more likely it will be based on GT212 than a 40nm revision of the current desktop GT200 series. GT200 uses a ton of power, the die is huge, it's not designed for a laptop in the slightest. GT212 should be better fitted for power consumption by trading 512 bit for a 256 bit memory bus and speedier GDDR5 memory. Shader count should be about 50% higher than the current desktop GT200, and clocks should be quite a bit higher making use of the 40nm fabrication. That's comparing desktop GPU to desktop GPU however, a mobile version will be stripped down.

True thats what these guys do is strip down the mobile version of the chipset with lower on clock speed as well as shader also as you mentioned by reducing the bit interface from 512 to 256 bit interface..........Basically overall decrease in gaming performance......

But, as I had read the reviews about DX11 hardware requiremnt are suppose to be lower then DX10 and also no new feature has been added to it except opengl 3.0 requirement.....Basically, we should see rise in gaming performance on windows 7 with the same GPU like 9700 GT being used in vista...

Also, the number of stream processor are higher this time in the 300 series with 512 bit memory interface and 1000+ mhz memory speed and shader over 1600+ speed.....

256-bit with GDDR5 will perform on the level of 512-bit with GDDR3, so I'm fine with that. 512-bit is too much raw power consumption for notebook form factors.

So with all this in mind, which notebooks now are the future proof notebooks?

I use the term loosely, everything will be out of date at some point :)

Notebooks with MXM 3.0 slots. So far, there's only Clevo D900F and M980NU.

I even doubt that mxm 3.0 slot notebook will be able to handle 512 bit gddr5 raw power......I think they will come up with maybe mxm 4.0 slots to handle such capabilities....What you guys think????
