Well I just got my 9300 yesterday and it is Beautiful......except it runs Battlefield 2 like crap and that makes me sad :( :( But now that I am done being sad I need to know, I want to upgrade is teh Geforce 6800 256MB Good Enough to hold me over for a year (maybe year and a half)? Can it run everything on High settings?

I see them online on Ebay for like 150-200 bucks so I am wondering if I should put a bid, or should I spend my entire bank account getting a 7800 GTX?

    Thanks

    Jrunk

    Specs BTW:

    2.13 Ghz Pentium M Centrino
    1 Gig Of Ram
    100 Gig HD 5400 RPM
    17in WXGA
Current card X300 (god this sucks worse than my 9600 in my desktop)

BF2 is a memory hog. I've read that you need 2GB to enjoy smoot h performance on that game.

If you want to keep your warranty, I would go for the 6800. Otherwise, go for the 7800gtx. That is the only thing that is keeping me back.

There is no problem at all with the video card - it's your memory as posted. 1GB is good, but for BF2, you'll definitely benefit from 2GB. When I upgraded my system from 1GB to two and started playing BF2, I noticed the difference right away - no hiccups, studdering, etc.

You'll see a huge performance increase with the Go6800, definitely worth the price. I'd upgrade that first and then the memory.

Everything else in your system is perfectly fine. Nice processor. ;)

BTW - I would update to the latest video drivers too.

I agree with Chaz. I would definently upgrade to the 6800 Go...I love mine. I don't play BF2, but FEAR runs great on my lappy. Since I got my 2GB of memory everything is alot smoother and it doesn't lag on the bigger boards anymore.

Go for the 6800 Go! ;)

As an huge BF2 fan, if you want your graphics on high you need 2 GB of RAM and at least 12-16 pixel pipelines in your vid card. If you can afford the 7800 GTX go for it. I had a clan member make a post in EA's forums about excessive memory useage of BF2 and EA told him that on medium graphic settings it takes 1 GB of RAM and on high it takes at least 1.5 GB of RAM to run smoothly.

I play BF2 on my desktop -> AMD 3500+ 2.2Ghz, 2 GB or PC3200, and vid card (16 pixel pipeline at 500/1050 clock speeds). I can run the game at mostly high settings with anti-alias off. If I push the envelope you notice lag in the game. If you really cranked your settings up too high then you will see your ping skyrocket to 800 and back down, constantly. If you are slightly over your rigs capability you will notice little hang ups here and there. I can also tell you from medium to high there is little to no difference in graphics. I ran BF2 on low setting on my old PC until I got my new one and there is not a huge difference in graphics from low to medium or medium to high.

    Hope that helps!

I second chaz you should upgrade your memory. I have a 6800 Go in my Z81sp and I don't play BF2 but with all the games that I have played on that card (UT2004, half life) so far has ran great.

I didn't think having only 1 gig of ram would hold me back like that hehe. Are the 6.1 Radeon Mobile Drivers the latest?

Can you max out with the 6800?

OCZ makes great memory, as well as Kingston, Crucial, and Corsair. I have 2GB of OCZ DDR2-533 in my notebook. Excellent performance, stability, quality. My second choice would have been Corsair, I have some sticks of that in my desktop, it's awesome.

You can't use the ATI drivers for your nVidia card . . .I'm not sure what the latest ones are, as I don't have an nVidia card in any of my machines. If anyone has an nVidia cards and/or knows what the latest drivers are, post away!

EDIT: I didn't realize you had the X300 hehe. Yes in that case, the Catalyst 6.1 are the latest. Very stable!

Did you mean my X300 is fine or getting a Geforce is perfectly fine?

Oh! I must have missed that you had the X300.

Sorry about that. Yeah, then in that case, everything but the video card.

Upgrade is definitely worth the money.

I edited my other two posts to reflect the changes.

Hi , i'm planing to buy a new dell inspiron 9300:
Dell Inspiron 9300 Notebook: Intel Pentium M 760 Processor (2GHz/533MHz FSB) Integrated Audio
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
256MB NVIDA GeForce Go 6800 PCI Express X16 video card
17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen XGA+ Notebook Screen 1400X900 resolution
    8x DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability CD/DVD-Burner
    2GB MB DDR2 533MHz SDRAM (2 DIMMs)
Primary Battery: 53 WHr Battery / 90W AC Adapter
Intel 2200 Wireless Card B/G WIFI
    60 GB 5400RPM Hard Drive

I have a question about the graphic card , since i'm a heavy gamer , i play online fps very often , i would like to know how many fps im gonna have if i turn details to the normal level (not optimal , not minimum) in games like CS:Source , Quake4 , Doom3 , UT2004 , Swat4 ... What is the normal number of fps needed to play theses online games smoothly (not the best but smooth enough)

    thanks

I think it would be cheaper to go the eBay route Duncan - a lot fo people are upgrading their i9300's to a 7800GTX, so they are unloading the 6800's.

You won't have any problems at all playing games with that card.

The 6800 Go rocks. Especially if you overclock it. Check sig for specifics. This card plays anything on the highest settings for the most part. Great card.

I agree with Chaz. Check on Ebay, they will be cheaper on there due to people upgrading.

Try Dell's refurbished parts section - you can get them for a reasonable price there I believe.
