so I was trolling through notebookreview like i usually do, HOPING beyond hope I'll see something about "NEW DELL INSPIRON LAPTOPS......... w/ DX10 and Santa ROSA!!!" yay....... but no. saw the new Asus review out, and am starting to wonder, since i want to future proof, should i just go w/ the new G1S even though it's a mid ranged card, it's still a lot better than what i got...... or should i wait until right before college for dell to release something. so i went over to nvidia's site and i found that out.
If you scroll to the bottom where it says Solutions at a glance, they list the 8600GT/GS as Performance and Multimedia..... mid range, like i thought. Looking to the left at Enthusiast, you don't see anything 8xxx anything, but at the bottom it says, "The GeForce 8M Seriest for enthusiast will be released in the summer of 2007!"![]()
I thought they weren't gonna have the 8700/8800's out until august/september time frame, and not in notebooks until like october. apparently nvidia thinks wrong.... any thoughts?

Well, the August 2007 timeframe would be Summer.
And there's a difference between when the GPU's will be "released" and when they will be available to buy in laptops. So it's conceivable that the GeForce 8700M and 8800M might be "released" in the summer, but not available to buy until later.
However, I guess the question is, where did you hear that they wouldn't be in notebooks until October?
I would probably trust what NVidia says,..... perhaps the schedule got bumped up, or whatever you read about the original release date was just an estimate. -
i dunno, i kinda start thinking may, june, july is summer...... mainly because i'm still in school. august is the last fringes of summer, so i usually think of it as fall, crappy weather anyways. whenever i hear people talking bout high end 8xxxM's they usually seem bummed. it was my assumption that the high end 8xxxM's would be in Aug/Sept, cause I was under the impression that the desktop 8800's took a while in coming out too, they just now released the 8800 Ultra, so in turn thought the mobile versions would be late in coming. and like you said, there's a diff when the GPU's are "released" and when they are available. so aug/sept for release, oct for availability

A couple of sites have suggested that the 8700M GT will be officially announced (AKA, "released"?) at Computex next week (June 5-9). This site reports: " Looking ahead, NVIDIA shared with us that GeForce 8M based SLI notebooks might take off later this year in July and that more variety of these high-end gaming-class notebooks should prevail than there are available currently. They also put a note that SLI notebooks based on the Intel Napa platform might debut during the Computex 2007 timeframe"
From what I gather, the 8700M GT will probably be announced at Computex, and will (hopefully) be available to buy sometime in late July/August. We'll just have to wait and see. -
I really hope they are available to buy before September

Back on topic, do you expect the 8700M GT to be better or worse then the 7950 GTX -
This topic needs to be discussed more. I have been searching several forums for just this discussion.
Some speculation I heard is that the 8700M will be based off the PC's rumored 8600 Ultra. That might mean that it would still suffer the same 128-bit memory bandwidth bottleneck, or maybe not. Who knows? Its a rumored card based off of a rumored card after all.
Hopefully that the 8700M has at least a 256-bit bandwith and 512MB memory standard. I am looking to hopefully get a high end gaming notebook with a good high end DX10 card by the end of the summer. Hopefully the 8700M is it. If not, then hopefully the 8800M gets released at the same time or shortly after.
What do you guys think the chances are that Dell will incorporate one of these as of yet unanncounced enthusiast DX10 cards in their XPS M1710 line and all by the end of the summer? -
For those of us younger folk..summer ends when school starts - that's roughly end of August
I would hope that gaming cards aimed at a market composed heavily of people in that age group would come out before "summer" ends. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Looks like its been delayed again gentechs site changed from late may/early june to mid june.
-
where does it say that, i have such a hard time browsing gentech pc's site, its so horribly made -
I call September the start of fall and the end of summer (even though I live in GA, where summer goes to November).
Though technically, if we were to space the seasons equally and center summer around the Summer Solstice (the longest daylight day) and winter around the Winter Solstice (the shortest daylight day) then....
Ha ha, no. It's just a weird theory I keep pushing on people, who just keep running away from me.
I hope 8700/8800M is out by August, because I need to buy by mid-August. (I'm also waiting for the m1710 refresh.) Does anyone have any guesses as to what kind of prices we're looking at? Santa Rosa has turned out NOT to be hugely more expensive than Merom & co. Hopefully Dell will still offer the 7950 as an option, as it'll be fast enough for me but cheaper. -
