    I have a new notebook with a 9600M GS ( acer 6930). I've done some gaming today but and i'm pleased with the performance but i thought the gfx would be a little bit faster. Both CPU-Z and GPU-Z report the pci-e bus at 1x instead of 16x, is it possible that this is a bug ( as in some P35 and P45 motherboards) or a faulty detection.

    Specs

    P7350
    Geforce 9600M GS
    4GB
    1366x768
    games

    TF2 Med ---- 70fps, in combat 35-50
    L4D med - High --- 60 fps, in combat 35-40
    Fallout 3 Med 2x AA 30 fps, almost always ( no vsync)
    3dmark 2006 4300

    Is there some more0 performance in my 9600M or am i expecting too much?

    Alt - Tab out of a game and check if it's at 1x or 16x. You're probably bottlenecked by your processor in TF2 and L4D.

    Notebookcheck.net puts your 9600m GS at between 3200 to 4319 points in 3DMark06, with an average score of 3840, so a score of 4300 would put your 9600m GS at the top of the 9600m GS.

    From what I've heard, Notebookcheck.net apparently isn't a very reliable source, but perhaps you are expecting a little too much here.

    4300 is a good score for GS, my GT scores 4500 at stock speed (it's DDR2 version)

    Ok, I knew the specs and performance of the 9600M but it's a bit stupid that the deskop version is twice as fast. I think the pci-e 1x is wrong in cpu-z because my 3dmark is ok.

    My 3Dmarkscore is when running 3dmark at 1366x768 ( a little bit less then 1280x1024).

    I tried a small overclock 430/1075/400 --> 500/1280/500. 3Dmark 4300-> 5100.

    Are there recommend drivers ? I'm using Dox optimized 185.20 now. (i already know video2go)

    That's because the 9600M is in fact based on the desktop 9500 which is crappy IMHO. The 9800M is the card based on the desktop 9600...

    The video downclocks to x1 unless the videocard is required to bump it up to x16 during gaming of GPU intensive programs. If you take a reading of say GPUZ when gaming etc, it should report the correct x16.

    If your on windows Vista, on power save mode, or balanced mode, when not in a 3d game the system will automatically switch to 1x mode to save power. It's not a bug or a faulty detection, it's a power save feature.

    Yeah the numbering convention is getting out of hand, especially with laptop GPUs, considering the desktop and laptop 9600s are two different graphics systems.

    Ok, I'm guess my 9600M is performing like it should. Cpu-z does detect the pci-e 16x when gaming.

    I tried some more overclocking and i found the max stable clocks at 625/510 but the increased core speeds seems useless (100mhz corespeed = 40mhz ram).

    Is there anyone that has pics of both the 9600M GS and DDR2 GT? I'm considering running my GS at GT ddr2 clocks (430/400 -> 500/450) and i'd like to know the difference between the ddr2 GT and GS PCB .

    Cooling is no problem, i ran 3dmark 5 times yesterday at 625/510 and the max cpu temp was 63°c , gpu 69°c.

    EDIT : Some benchmarks at 650/1625/500

    3dmark06 5492 ---> Stock about 4300, 28% increase !
    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=10025868 ( don't forget its at 1366x768 and with a 2ghz P7350 )

    Trackmania Nations Forever build-in bench
    Max settings , 16xAA
    Stock 21.7Fps
    OC 28.8FPs --> 33% more !

    DDR2 GT's stock clocks are 500/400, not 450

    630/520 mine scores 5800
