I'm looking for a new laptop at the moment and have found a very cheap but great spec HP laptop which has a Ge Force Go 6150 with 128Mb shared. Or i could buy one from sony that's £200 more and almost the same spec but has a Go 7400 with 128mb Dedicated.

What i would like to know is is the £200 worth it?

Oh yeah and ihave the option of upgrading to the Go 7600 on the Sony for another £100. Is that worth it aswell?

If you intend to do some heavy gaming then get the 7600.
    Occasional gaming, 7400
Light gaming (ie old titles, some new ones at low res/detail) 6150

What laptop are you currently looking at? And how much u looking to spend?

    for medium to heavy gaming:
stay away from Go 6150 - integrated (no games)
go 7400 is nice card but can't run lastest games with all details
go 7600 of course the best option , you can play everything with highest details

so go for go 7600 if you can afford it

I can either have an HP Pavillion with 1GB RAM, 100GB HD and AMD X2 1.6Ghz processor or a brand new Sony FE31H with 1GB RAM, 120GB HD and Core 2 Duo 1.66Ghz.
the HP has the GO 6150 nad the Sony the 7400

oh sorry as well the HP is £700 and the Sony £900. These would be for my sister and mother (still high games for sis!) I would be getting the new Sony FE31Z which has 2GB RAM, 200GB HD Core 2 Duo 1.83Ghz and the Go 760. All 3 have DVD-RW and integrated wireless, the standard stuff really

Agreed. If you want to do any gaming whatsoever, then the 7600 is the way to go.

Yeah that was my thought, just wish it had more than 128mb dedicated! Basically i'm going to get the FE31Z which has the 7600 (£1300) i think my sister will probably want the FE31H (7400) and just now on comet.co.uk i've found a Siemens laptop with a brand new AMD X2 1.6Ghz, 2GB RAM and a 120GB HD for £670 which is an absolutely cracking deal. Again the card is only a 128MB ATI X1100 so won't be good for games but at that price my mum would be very happy with that!

Well, the X1100 isn't that bad. It's based off the X700 core isn't it? It should be sufficient for some gaming. correct me if I'm wrong

If the x1100 isn't that bad then that might be good cos i don't know if mum would be happy paying an extra £230 so she can play games! and i'm really impressed with the siemens for value. Basically i thought the x1100 was pretty much a bottom end shared graphics processor isn't it?

I looked on the summary thread at the top of the 'graphics card' page which put it in the bottom section.

No i don't know the answers otherwise i wouldnt be asking. Theres no need to get shirty. What constitutes a bottom end one? Will it play any games for example or only do word and the net?

    I'm not shirty at all.

well it's mentioned there integrated(low/bottom...-end) can run fluently only old games, hardly ever present with substantialy reduced detail. They usually don't have their own memory.

    OK?

I'm confused...who is the laptop for? You said you wanted something for gaming, and now its for your mum. Unless your Mum whittles away the time playing CS:S in the evening, I really don't think she will need dual core, and several gigs of memory.

Right well i'm b asically looking for three laptops. One for my mum, one for my sister and one for me. The one my mum was getting for herself and sis originally had the GO 6150 but i didn't know if that would be enougth for sis. So i think the way it will work is i will get the Sony with the 7600, sis the sony with the 7400 and mumj the siemens with the ATI X1100. Thanks for your help everybody!
Oh famous grouse you said your Nvidia 7600 had 512 dedicated but the laptop with the 7600 card is only 128 dedicated. What's that all about? Have you the 7600 GT or GTX by any chance?

Don't worry i've had a look at that zepto website and i get it now. It looks good actually the only thing the sony has on it is the HD, Screen and styling. But i think 100GB should be fine especially as i can just stick a 100GB firewire drive off ebay on to.
I'm looking at the 6615, 2.16 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 100GB HD, Slot DVD-RW and 512mb 7600. With the 3 year warranty its £1300 all told, the same price as the Sony. What do you think of the build quality and do you think i would need three years? (I do tend to move it around a lot!)
