I'm about to buy a laptop and i can't really decide wich one to choose. I will mainly use it for music making but id' like it to be a fairly good gaming laptop too. So i checked a lot of stuff but can't really seem to get any clarity in things.
I've decided on a Intel Dual Core laptop since it would probably give me some boost playing oblivion when it comes out. Besides from that i'm kind of confused on what GPU to go for. gf-go 7600 or ati mobility radeon x1800.
I'll list 2 systems i'm concidering costing about the same. Maybe you can help me out on wich one to choose.
Zepto Znote 6214W
* 14" WXGA+ skärm 1280x768
* nVidia Geforce Go 7600 512MB graphics
* Intel® Pentium™ M Yonah (1.83 GHz Intel® Core™ Duo T2400)
* 2046Mb DDRII dual channel (667)
LG S1 Express Dual
* 15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800)
* ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 256Mb
* Intel Core Duo 2.0 GHz
* 1024Mb DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz
Besides from looks i guess that the zepto one is more for less, but if theres a big difference in the graphic card i wanna be sure that i'm not blinded by the MB.
Thanks for any help.
Any links to comparisons on these 2 cards would be appriciated. =)
/ Cheers

Oy, the topic needs to be changed. The title of the topic doesn't even need a discussion
From what I've read, the x1600 will be a strong performer in shader-intensive games. But we really need prices for a better comparison. I don't think there have been any 3dMarks with a 7600 so you'd have to wait and look around first.
What I'd like to know is why a Geforce Go 7600 has 512MB of video ram when even the Go 7800GTX doesn't get that much? -
Prices are about the same in SEK 20.000 ... approx $2.300-2.400 in USD i guess. . i dont kno why the Zepto one has 512Mb but that's what was listed on the homepage ... http://www.zepto.com

i bet that it is 512 mb with 256 dedicated and 256 turbocache.

The Go7600 doesn't have 512MB of memory - it's 256MB of dedicated and 256MB of TurboCache shared, correct.
I haven't seen any real benchmarks for the Go7600, but I don't think it will be as strong as the X1600. Should be competitive and put up some nice numbers though.
You're comparing a 14" and a 15.4" - how often do you travel? -
I don't actually travel that much. But the size isn't that important to me. It's the screen resolution and weight and noise.. I wouldn't actually use it while travlelling unless there was some external power supply so i don't care about the battery life. I just want the mobility of the computer to be decent cuz i work with music, both in my spare time and occationally at work. That means... I want my Studio PC to be portable so i can bring all my music stuff to work when needed. (Including all the installed software, that's why a External hard drive isn't enough)
Anayways... but as i would use this Laptop mostly for private use and some game playing I'd really like to be sure it's a good enough graphics card to last at least 1,5 or 2 years. After that i'll probably hand it over to my GF or a family memeber and buy a new one.
But from what i read so far is that x1600 would be somewhat better than the GF-Go 7600.. -

I'd probably go for the 14" with the Go7600 if you want to travel. A smaller size is going to come in handy.
Chaz -
for travel, i would always choose the smaller one. travel with a laptop after awhile gets heavy, so the lighter the better...unless you dont care about the weight..BUT do not choose lighter over the specs you require.
hope this helps,

Thanks all. Made up my mind. Chose the LG one. Mainly becouse the x1600 GPU but also a bit from the looks.. It looks kind of neat and have the specs i want.

congrats on your purchase...im sure you will be quite happy with it..good luck!

Just to let you know, the Zepto 6214w with the go7600 does infact have 512MB of DEDICATED memory

I've got an Acer 8204WLMi which is a 15.4" notebook with an X1600 but it's quite heavy (3kg) so it's not the most mobile of notebooks. For what it's worth, if you don't mind carrying one around, I'd say you need at least a 15.4" if you want to do some decent gaming.
Geforce Go 7600 or ATI x1800? wich is actually better?
