I got my laptop the other day and it came with a Windows XP sp1 installed. I tried some benchmarking programs and I received almost 16 000 p in 3Dmark 01. Which is quite "as it should be".

Today I reinstalled windows but with sp2 and again tried 3dmark, now I get a little over 7200 points. What on earth could have happened. It has been a drastic drop in performance, what could possibly cause such a behaviour?
    The computer is displayed here
    http://www.shg.biz/link.asp?goto=infobox&varenr=550706
Other games such as Wow also run alot slower (½ framerate)

I have checked the powermizer and it is configured @ max performance.

Could it be that the notebook is just overheated and needs to be switched off for some time?

Anyone else with a similar problem? I would be very thankful for any answer at all.

Hi caligulan and welcome to the forum,

That is strange. Try installing Ati tray tools and turn on the On screen display for GPU/memory speed while in 3d mode. You can find the tutorial here:
    http://www.thegamebooks.com/ati-tray-tools-goodies-t123.html

Hope it helps - check the speeds and see if it underclocks for some reason.

Thank you for your quick response and thanks for the welcome!

I had some thoughts about your post. Does Ati-software really work on a Geforce 6600go based machine?

I can add to my previous message that I have been eradicating all unnecessary programs and services running on the system. I just don't know what to do next. This is almost as bad as my previous laptop : /

UPS. I couldn't open the link you gave. Sorry, I somehow thought that you have an Ati card. But I'm not really sure about OSD. Never tried it. Try some Nvidia tool then.

    Cheers,

Ok I found out what caused this. It was as suspected a heat issue. The computer had been switched on for too long. It was standing on a wooden table though, so I thought the heat would be transported away.

I tried the 3dmark the following morning and got an almost 16k points and now I am satisfied. Sorry if I stole some of your time for this simple question.
