My questions is, has any one compared the two in terms of gaming power, which one is better.

(i've got a 5900 ultra at the moment - yes i know its not that good - and am thinking of getting a laptop with 7300 in it - and yes i know thats not good either, but thats all my budget will allow.)

One advantage the 7300 has is PS3.0 support and much more powerful shaders. I think you might even see a light increase in performance out of the 7300 but worst case it willbe about the same.

By the looks of it the FX5900 is better, both cards can be compared here.

Really depends on what you are using the card for. In terms of raw power - the 5900 would be better. But it only supports PS 2.0, and you might want to utilise that in some more recent games.

Wow according to that site the 5900 ultra should be way faster than the 7300, but on all the reviews ive read of the 7300 it beats it in all 3dmark tests - i know thats not the be all and end all - but still it is faster.

    EG. my rig gets 3dmark05 of 1000 and 3dmark03 of 3500 (athlon64 3000+,512mb ram)
    The asus a8jc (with a go7300) gets 3dmark05 1500 and 3dmark03 4000 (core duo 1.66, 1gig ram)

The 5900 is a faster card, but does not support the newer technologies supported by the 7300. Therefore, the 7300 will beat the 5900 on 3DMark tests, because the 5900 is incapable of running several of the tests.
However, at the same settings, the 5900 will produce better framerates. Do note that as newer technologies are not available, the 5900 will not be able to run the latest games at settings as beautiful as they can be on the 7300(for example no HDR support on the 5900).

The 3DMarks you listed in your previous post is very unbalanced. The A8JC has a much faster CPU and RAM which would significantly effect its 3DMark score. Do not forget that although important, a graphics card is not everything a game needs. The latest games all require a recommended 1GB of RAM, which will definitely be a major factor in game benchmark tests.

The GeForce FX series will be terrible performers in the latest games .. however, if you don't play the absolute cutting edge games, then it is an adequate card. I'd say going to a Go7300 would be a downgrade. It is very weak.
