I don't know if it's already posted, but I've recently made a cool discovery, getting 3D straight on your laptop without the need of an external monitor. Apparently 3D vision discover (red and blue) http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Vision_Discover_Main.html is possible on some older laptops. For some reason Nvidia didn't make this option available to us. Today I can proudly tell you that 3D works on my old HP HDX Dragon, making no difference in fps if 3D is turned on or not.
1. I have no idea if it works for other graphic cards, but you'll need Nvidia graphic card that is compatible with 186.91 driver and download and install 186.91 nvidia driver (mine was 8800m GTS). Apparently it's recommended to have 8800 or above.
2. You need to download 186.30 quadro driver
http://www.nvidia.com/object/Quadro_winvista_x32_186.30_whql.html
Don't install this one yet!!! It wouldn't work anyway
3. Next you download 7-zip right here: http://www.7-zip.org/
4. You unpack the 186.30 driver with 7-zip
5. Go to the folder where you unpacked the 186.30 driver and find 3Dvision_186.30.exe and extract that exe AGAIN
6. Locate the extracted .exe and find setup.exe and run it, surprise surprise, now you can run it without giving you an error message.
7. Enable 3D vision, go through the setup:
And you'll have some cool 3D vision...
All you need is some red and blue glassesand enjoy owning people in whatever game you play in 3D
8. Finally if you're bored with 3D or it's just giving you a headache, just press CTRL + T to toggle it off or on.
Ok interestingly I made a video with fraps in Modern Warfare 2 and it doesn't show you the 3d like in the preview picture given below (trust me but gameplay is still like the picture below), but shows the video is split in two. It's uploading now... So hold onThe gameplay may look a bit slow, but that's because fraps was recording at the moment:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnDMW7tIaPc
I also just made a video with my phone, which does show the actual gameplay. You can also see me toggle between 3D and normal view:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgIt2RxYS58
The video is still processing, I'm hoping it'll give better quality in a few hours.
Download Nvidia 3D vision video player to watch your movies in 3D:

Nice guide, hope ATI has that 3D thing too.....
-
Cool, this is one of 4? ways to have 3D. This is one doesn't require a different screen, but can cause slight color changes. Will this work with the GTX 260M on the M15x?
-
This has been around for at least a year now, saw it at CES 2009 and played some L4D using red/blue 3D glasses from the Superbowl.
-
-
Yea, this is a bit old
Using it on the Area 51 m15x -
-
Sad thing I dont have these red and blue glasses, I only own the RealD eyewear

A post later in the thread mentions you need cyan/red, not blue/red -
in any case I hope someone else had some help with this guidewho also didn't know like me
. Also isn't cyan blue?
-
Does anyone get headaches from using this for a long peiod of time?
-
So how to get these glasses as they are available only as bundled package
-
You can tailor the nVidia drivers to whatever colour of anaglyph glasses you have. It's pretty easy to make your own.
Anaglyph 3D sucks though. -
Sorry for bumping this up but does anyone know which 3D glasses are good (visual quality, good for eyes)?
-
-
is there i can buy a 120hz OEM screen? perhaps the one asus uses for its G51J? then put it into my m15x?
-
There is a much better solution than the Nvidia driver. Download the piggyback driver at http://www.iz3d.com/driver which has a free 3D anaglyph mode. Here are some highlights about why you want this one.
1. Works with any brand of video card
2. Works with mid-range cards and higher (even my old ATI 9000 can run this)
3. Works with more versions of Windows
4. More configurable 3D settings
5. Can be optimized for glasses with different color splits than red/cyan
6. Can be used without replacing your performance drivers
3D with your high performance drivers on virtually any card with extensive customization abilities and no special hardware. I can't think of anything in an anaglyph driver this doesn't do. And it's free! -
-
iz3d screws up my M15x. had to go into safe mode to uninstall.
-
I've used this on three systems and not had issues. But by the comment of one user having to remove this in safe mode, perhaps it is not for everyone. -

The nVidia glasses are not the best and yes you do need a 120Hz screen to use them. Glasses based on Bit Cauldron technology are far superior and there will be a number of manufacturers using their technology soon. Expect BC glasses for ATi cards and 120Hz displays to be available around June time.
-
No, I believe they require the 120Hz screen. Need to find someone who actually owns therm.
-
Edit: This is interesting, LINK -
Yeah they aren't too bad but as that article points out they do reduce the brightness of your display quite a bit. 3D Vision Surround was incredibly cool though. I can only imagine how good ATi Eyefinity 3D with Bit Cauldron glasses is going to be
-
I'd be happy to help contribute to their success if there is a public offering. -

Thanks atleast this methond activated 3d conversion of my dvds in Powerdvd 10.
-
i don't know if it does how ever recent ati and nvidia drivers works with iz3d wich is free for red/blue(red cyan or what ever you chose to use)
it also suport 3d shutter glasses and etc but haven't tested cause i can't find a 120hz panel to fit in my m17 -
This has been done for ages and ages
. I used to have childrens books that did this. It messes up the color for true color but if your ok with that then full speed ahead.
I thought this was more of a way to bypass 3d tv which ive been looking for a way to do for a while now. I have an older 120 sharp 52" 1080p lcd and it wont do 3d at all. The way I figure it is you'd either need a set top box (3d blu ray player) or your computer and then plug the Bluetooth reciever into that, then you'd plug your comp or blu ray into the tv and all it would have to do is produce 2 frames and have the device sync it up. No need for a brand new tv when my tv is BRAND NEW. Theres a few things im thinking might work, the nvidia vision kit but in its specs it now says 3d ready tv, or theres a monster universal lcd flicker glasses kit. But no ones tested out my theory and im not willing to drop the cash just to test it out.
I would be on board in a second if all I had to buy for 3d was an extra add on piece, not a whole bloody tv.
Rant over. -

BUMP for those who want to run Nvidia 3d vision in 60hz.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
it's not any good for me. i tried this a long time ago across a variety of games and couldn't find any circumstance where i would enjoy it.
-
Notebook or desktop + old vga connection + any projector (or lcd) + old shutter glasses (hooks on d-sub for sync) + stereoscopic player + page flipping mode.
Any stereo movie in real 3d with glasses without 120Hz ...
At 60Hz it is blinking like hell .. but some projector can go 75Hz+ after that can hardly see it.
And yes got even avatar in 3Dlooks good in 72" screen .. 18Gb movie

Cyan = R0, G255, B255 (so it's max green + max blue on your monitor) -
$4.70 at Amazon.com, will these work?
Amazon.com: Red-blue / Cyan Anaglyph Simple style 3D Glasses 3D movie game: Toys & Games
or these for $0.70?
http://www.amazon.com/3D-Glasses-cyan-plastic-frame/dp/B001CD8GAA -
With ATi it's open platform so you buy the 3D glasses from 3rd Party. There are so far 2 companies and those 2 companies will support over 400 games. I haven't paid much attention, but 3D has been implemented for HD5xxx and HD6xxx.
But it's not just a simple blue/red glasses. They are active shutter glasses, so not exactly as described here. So you do need 120hz LCD. I am not sure about this workaround if it will work on ATi or not. -
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
I got mine via ebay for 15 cents shipped
It works like charm but you will loose 75% of the color in the red/cyan mixture
But its worth the fun when stuff comes out of screen -
I have used it last year, and it is pretty cool. -

Bah soo misleading, I thought it was a way to get the interlaced 3d . I've always thought that maybe it would be possible to get 3d on any hd screen. I figured, hack soft for amd or just reg soft for those who have the nvidia 3d vision kit, then any external monitor would just display what ever the pc is displaying, making the whole "You need a 3d ready 120hz tv to do it" claim false. While in this topic does anyone know if this works? Because if it does I might give it a check on my 3 year old 52 inch hd lcd.
3d is a gimmick regardless but what compounds the stupidity on the subject is the manufacturers underestimate cheap consumers. Seriously most people bought an HDTV before this 3D Craze and then to be like "oh go buy a new tv its worth it" is rediculous at best. Unless your buying a new tv anyways or you wanted 3d your buying a new tv, otherwise your perfectly happy with the tv you already have in your house and won't bother with 3d for atleast another 5 years. Its practically force fed to everyone, even if you don't want 3d in your tv your forced buying it now, with a premium for the stupid lcd glasses. Ontop of that, we have BARELY moved onto HD, I still know people who own tube tvs, just saw an hdtv this year, finally played a game at 1080 and was amazed, and so on. HD programming on cable and sat JUST took off within the last few years and im sure plenty people on here know grandparents relatives, aunts and uncles that still watch a small 27 inch tube.
RANT OVER.....
