This is getting really annoying. I've tried everything I can, but the program won't start!

I've downloaded the 2.0 patch, the geforce fix and tried to disable my sound card. When I disable my soundcard it just tells me the game can't start because there is a program with some sort of directsomethingsomething sound layer.

It is almost surely a sound-related issue if you are using Vista. Are you on a desktop or a laptop? If it is a desktop you could try removing the soundcard and just using onboard motherboard audio. If it is a laptop, you shouldn't need to disable anything because mobile systems don't have dedicated sound cards.

You could go around the net and look for a sound fix, I had to do this with Max Payne 1 so that it didn't sound like it had epilepsy while playing.

Thanks for helping! I fixed the problem with getting the game to work, now I just have to find out how to configure the game, so the sound sounds normal.

How'd you get it to work?

I have the game and am trying to play it under Vista.

Get a program called Creative ALchemy and do the following:

Open up the program and press add

    1. Give the game a title

    2. Then press the "use game path button" and type in the file path to the mgs2 folder

    3. Then check off the "install into sub folder" box and type in bin

When you've done all that, you should see the game under the "installed games" list in ALchemy, and move it over to the "ALchemy enabled games" list

You should probably also run the game in XP compatibility mode.

Do you have to have a creative sound card to use alCHEMY software, or will it work with my integrated sound card (asus g1s ). btw do you have to pay for software?

Yep, the software is not free.

And I have an integraded soundcard on my Vostro and it works just fine. But I guess it is different from computer to computer.
