Hi I recently bought a Dell Inspiron e1505 on recommendation of this forum. It runs pretty well but I just don't think I'm getting the power I should.
In mid level settings in Counter-Strike Source I only get around 60-70 FPS.
I have to turn the settings to low as possible to run Call of Duty 2.
I have a Dual Core 2.0 Ghz
2GB Ram
160 GB HD
Radeon Mobility x1400
I'm using the newest ATI drivers, I can't decide if they're better than the omega.
Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way
I scored 857 on 3dMark06 -
What windows are you using ?
Also have you turned V-Sync on ?
It's the option that caps FPS at the screen refresh rate (it's a good option. If the FPS goes higher than the refresh rate, the visible screen will be from 2 or 3 different frames, so if you are making a quick move (e.g. rotate 180 degress in a second) you'll notice it. -
i mean only because the max is 300, and a lot of people get close to 300

Please helppppp

I'm trying out power strip now, the default settings are
Engine:432 MHz
Mem:391.50 MHz
Anyone know whats safe to go up to and how much performance i'll get? -

60-70fps is good. Why complain?
Laptop GPU's normally perform below their desktop counterparts by a fair margin.
I run CS:S all high with 4xAA and AF and it runs great at 40-60fps. -
I 'dont like anything under 80 fps to tell you the truth.
I know they perform worse but this was a pretty expensive laptop -
ummmm... the human eye can not see over 45 fps, so why are you complaining (some say it is 35 fps, i argue with that)
-
nah, the game is unplayable under 60, so choppy.
it only gets truly smooth for most people over 100 -
A friend of mine whos an eye doctor says the human eye stops seeing it at about 74-75fps.
Your video card is performing exactly how it should. If you want 300fps (no monitor can really DISPLAY 300fps btw) you should have gotten a desktop computer with an GeForce 8800. -
well i dont exactly want 300 i just need some suggestions on how to get a little more power into my system

Try searching a little more, there's x1400 OC'ing threads galore. Here is the most recent one I was at.

Our systems are almost identicle, so I imagine our results will be very similar. I am very pleased with my results, and there are no heat or stability issues.

thanks guy

i bought a cooling fan
can i overclock higher? -
A cooling fan is not like an ice pack. It will only save 5* or so at most. Be happy with 70fps in CS. That is plenty playable and pretty good. As for "choppy"... I've seen CSS run on my old desktop with a pitiful 256mb ram and some rubbish card and it is surprisingly smooth at only 25fps. Settings turned down obviously, but for the most part no choppiness. Really do not know why you are complaining that 70fps isn't high enough.
-
hmm maybe its mental, cus i've been told that you must have 60 for it to run without choppiness, and 100 to run truly smooth
with my cooling fan i got 546 mhz on the graphics card and 472 on the ram.
