i was able to successfully convert both of my GFWL savegames to steamworks without losing any progress. sharkiller's guide, the one you've linked which was posted in the AC forums on the day GFWL was stripped, is loose at best. you have to use a hex editor to modify the save file and each file is slightly more unique than the guide contemplates. looks like somebody has since created a utility that does it for you here. try that if you still have your own savegames backed up.

Any one find a site with game saves, steam or gfwl? I deleted my game a while ago. Thanks for the utility link.
