I'm considering ordering a notebook model from last year with an nVidia Go 7400 (64 MB dedicated RAM + 64 MB TurboCache RAM). I don't plan on using it for gaming, but would like to make sure it will perform well with Google Earth. Unfortunately, I will not be able to try it out before ordering. According to the Google Earth FAQ, it meets the minimum requirements, but can anyone tell me for sure if this GPU and video RAM are sufficient for smooth rendering of flights over areas with a high density of 3D models (such as, say, Berlin), assuming enough system RAM and Internet bandwidth?
By comparison, Second Life recommends the 7600 and higher models in the nVidia Go lineup, but I guess its rendering load is probably heavier than Google Earth's 3D models.
I'd really appreciate it if someone with this GPU would be kind enought to test Google Earth with 3D buildings enabled, with and without anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing, to see how smoothly it renders in each case, and post the results.
Thanks,
Dan

Yes, it should be sufficient. My notebook features the Go7400 with 2GB of RAM. I can run Google Earth with no trouble, including rendering of flights over high density areas.

I'd say it would run it, but it really depends on the other components as well.
Also, don't take my word for it but sometimes in BIOS setting you could change in to 128mb for the GPU, like my notebook. Good luck anyway -
jetstar: Is that with anisotropic filtering on "high" and anti-aliasing enabled?
Manic Penguins: The CPU is a 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo and RAM is 2 GB. -
Answering my own question a few months later, in case anybody is interested:
I finally had a chance to use a notebook with an nVidia 8400M GS (successor to the Go 7400) and 831 MB VRAM (64 MB of which dedicated). Viewing Disney World's Magic Kingdom on Google Earth with 3D Buildings enabled gave me only 5 fps at low settings, and around 3 fps at high settings. By comparison, a notebook with the older but more powerful nVidia Go 7700 with 512 MB dedicated VRAM is able to render the same area at 25 fps at low settings and 15 fps at high settings - 5 times faster!

Go 7400 o.k. for Google Earth w/ 3D models?
