If I am not mistaken the Go 7800GTX will outperform the 8600m GT in nearly every way except it does not support dx10. My question is that because the 8600mGT is relatively new, would driver support later down the line make the 8600m GT outperform the Go 7800GTX? Or is it likely that the Go 7800GTX will always be superior to the 8600m GT (ignoring dx10)?

yes the mobile 7800GTX is slightly faster than the 8600M GT in pretty much all aspects... excluding DX10.

The only thing about the 7800GTX is that it uses more than two times the power as compared to the 8600M GT... so there more heat and a higher power requirement of the notebook.

The 8600M GT is a great step for gaming performance with portability since its new architecture and optimized power requirements.... pretty much the new mid-range is comparable to the previous high-end.

From what im starting to hear and see the new 8600 gt gpu is closer to low end then mid range. But im sure thell get better. Until then ill stick with my go 7950 gtx. Its still got plenty of life left.

That because they're pushing out more frames than is noticable - i.e I can run CSS on my VAIO at lowest settings lowest res etc. and it will be pushing out 100+ fps (limited to 60 by vsync), same with my Alienware - It'll push out 200+fps on CSS at lowest settings but since its limited to 60 by vsync you're looking at 60fps on a Go 6400 and 60fps on dual Go 7950GTX's in SLi, does that mean they're the same?

But you are right ;) at higher res and AA (even higher res) the 128bit memory of the 8600 just can't keep up to the 7800GTX
