Hi, I have a go7900 oced to 450/1100 and my 3dmark06 score is barely making the 4000. When I read other ppl's oc they could easily get around 4500 with this oc. what r my doing wrong? I am using xtreme-g's newest drivers and running xp pro.
Second question, how do ppl get the extended voltage table to work? my checkbox is grey and i only have access to 1.24v or 1v. with the gtx bios I only have access to .9v 1v or 1.24v? cannt seem to find a guide on how to use extended v table.
Third question, how do do set the voltage and the clocks for when the laptop is on battery power? I seen ppl talking about undervolting to .9v when on battery power and getting over 5k on 3dmark05. Could someone please post a guide or just point me in the right direction?
The roms file i am using are from the stormlfter iso.

When you are running on the batteries, the GPU get's underclocked to lower the power consumption. You should plug the laptop in and then run the benchmarks.
-
can u explain how to use the extended v? I could use it, but donnt kno what they mean like vid and adjusting the amount of v entries there are. Kinda new to laptop oc and do not want to fry my laptop. -
What is your 3DMark before OC ? What are the temps ?(use rivatuner or speedfan to figure them out)
I have not OC'd my GPU (and it's an X1600).There are some hardcore overclockers over there. They can guide you better. -
beforce oc I only get 3500 which is really sad for 3dmark06.
my current oc is 480/1150 from 375/1000 and I can get 4200.
ppl with my current oc seem to get 4500-4800 for 3dmark06.
And just wondering does flashing to the GTX bios turn on the four extra pixal pipeline? -
I just looked up the scores.
Have you tried a fresh installation ?
This usually yields a good performance increase. -
My windows xp was only two days old with little software and duo core fix. So it should be fresh enough. I keep some programs running in background fancontrol and rmclock. But they should not make that much of a difference.

Processing... Please be patient.

What are the temps ? -
Yea read the post quite a while back. It does not say anything about the bios mod. my concern is just that how come ppl with same oc get much better results. I am not sure if they r using the 4801150.rom or the 480c1150.rom (GTX) and what difference does it make.

is the 7900GS 256 mb or 512 mb. I know it is one of those that the 7900GS always has, but i dunno which one of those 2 numbers.
-
my is 256mb, compareing to other 3dmark06 with the same oc and same card I am about 600pts behind.
-
Okay, let me try to give you a comprehensive answer to your questions.
First of all, flashing a 7900 GS to a 7900 GTX bios DOES NOT unlock the extra pipelines. There is no known way to unlock those pipelines, period.
Second, look at this thread.
http://www.notebookforums.com/thread157393.html
Look at the section under "3dmark06 scores." Your scores are not low, because your 480/1150 overclock is not a very high overclock for this card. For example, I run mine at 600/1520.
Finally, don't use 3dmark06 as a benchmarking program. Use 3dmark05 instead. The reason being that 3dmark06 scores are not directly comparable on laptops with different resolution displays. By default, 3dmark06 will run at 1280x1024 resolution on a wuxga display (1920x1200), whereas it will run at 1280x800 resolution on a wxga display (1440x900).
Obviously, higher resolution gives you a lower score. If you had the SAME hardware as another inspiron e1705 owner, except you have the 1920x1200 screen, your score will be a few hundred points lower than his. You can only directly compare 3dmark06 scores to people who have the same screen resolution as you.
On the other hand, 3dmark05 runs at the same resolution (I think 1024x768), which is why it's still used by many people as the benchmark of choice.
Note that this only applies to the free versions. If you actually buy 3dmark06 you can run it at whatever settings you want.
Bottom line - Your OC is not very high to begin with. And I think (I could be wrong, since you never stated it) you have the 1920x1200 screen and you might be comparing scores to someone with the 1440x900 screen. Hope this helps. -
I see, so according to that thread my score is only about 150pts lower than what it should be which could be due to noise. one more question how to change the clock speeds for when on battery? and is there a performance difference between 480c1150 or 4801150? GTX rom vs GS rom
-
The nvidia control panel used to have powermizer settings where you can adjust performance for battery. I don't think the latest drivers have that anymore.
There shouldn't be any performance difference between the gtx rom and the gs rom for the same clock speeds. The only difference is that you'll be able to achieve much higher overclocks on the gtx bios because of higher voltage and some better memory timings. -
Also I see ppl change the clock speed for when on battery in bios, how do you do this? -
Also dont forget: your memory is running at 533Mhz instead of 667. The difference isn't that big, but it can cost you 100 or even more points i guess.
-
I thought ram didnt matter that much, maybe 50pts max. Also my cpu score is always 200pts lower than same models, could it be I didn't apply the dual core fix correctly? or just background processes.
-
Here are my 3DMark 06 scores for the xps below:
3DMark score: 4776
SM 2.0: 1998
HDR/SM 3.0: 1909
CPU Score: 1698
I thought my notebook was getting average scores, but I guess not. -
