Hey guys. I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 with a 512 Go6800 and 1gb of ram. While playing CS:S on the recommended settings, my FPS is about 20 with drops down to the teens when there's a lot of action/people on the screen. I was wondering what other people are getting with their Go6800 and what can i do to improve my fps?
-
Hmm...you should not have any problems with that card...what kind of connection are you using and what FPS do you get when playing with bots?
-
i have a 200m that im playing on med and high settings that runs decent with a full game. My home pc has a geforce 6800 that runs all maxed fine 60-90 fps. Have you tried upgrading your drivers.

Could you post what settings and resolution you are running at? It should not have any problems at all with CS:S as posted.
Updating your video drivers is one place to start:

And make sure your video card's power settings are set to maximum performance when plugged in - Right-click Desktop, Properties, Settings tab, Advanced button, navigate to the Nvidia tab, then to the PowerMizer settings. -
I'm running CS:S on medium settings with the resolution at 1280x960. I installed new drivers, and my frames are still 15-20 with drops. I even tried tweaked autoexec's but that didn't work. My PowerMizer settings are all the way up. Does my desktop resolution effect the FPS that much? I'm running my desktop at 1920x1200.

resolutions do effect your fps rates... idk much about your card so i cant help you with that... but try running it in dx 7 mode i dont remeber the command for it but the steam website has it under help section. and if nothing else you could lower your resolution to a smaller wide screen resoultion -
Your desktop resolution makes no difference. The monitor automatically adjusts to whatever resolution you set in the game. Did you ever remove all the Dell bloatware? If not, a reformat would be a good place to start. Since you've already updated all your drivers and everything, I can't suggest that again. Beyond this, it might be a connection problem.
Also, are you having this problem with any other games? A reinstall of CS:S/Steam may be in order. -
That card should tear through Source. What are you getting on a user-created server with bots?
-
As soon as I got the computer I reformatted it, so there's no Dell software here. Let me hunt down a server with bots and I'll tell you my results.
-
i just ordered an inspiron e1705 but when it came to the trial software part i checked the box for no preinstalled software does this mean mine won't come with bloatware or at least that there wont be very much?
-
I also want to add that I'm running on a wireless connection. I'm about 5ft away from my router. I've never had any problems with my conneciton or my speed. I tried looking for a bot server and the closest I could get was a zombie server. So I went in there, and there wasn't any improvement over my frame rate. It still drops down and gets choppy. I also hooked up directly to my router with a cat5 and the results were still the same. Let me also add that the servers I'm playing in I have about 30 ping. Even with wireless.

I can't even remember if my laptop came with any bloatware. I formated it as soon as I got it out of the box. I think even though you checked that box, there's still going to be the small small Dell things that will still be preloaded.

That's interesting, I've never heard of that option before. It sounds like it should come with a clean install, but keep us filled in.
@OP - did you try what I said about the performance settings? See the attached screenshot.Attached Files:

Yep, I did. Everything is to it's max.

Have you cleaned out the notebook's vents yet? Take a look at the cooling guide.

i don't have the powermizer either.... any suggestions about why?

That is odd, what drivers are you using? I'm currently using older drivers, 86.46, with a Go7600 256MB and I have PowerMizer controls. Perhaps Nvidia disabled that option in future releases. I'll have to update my drivers and see. -
actually maybe it's me because i have the stock 83.90 drivers. should i update?
-
chaz, what drivers are you using? i don't see the version you're talking about on lv2go

I would, the 83.90 drivers are quite old.
Don't use the ones I am using, they are outdated as well. Go get the latest ones from LaptopVideo2Go; here's a link to the driver update guide. There are directions in there on how to install them.
