Hey I was just wondering what the difference between these two video cards are. i just want to know if its worth paying an extra 1k for asus's Lambo VX2 over their G1.

I would even dare to doubt that 7700 VX might have lower clocks since it's packed in a 1,4" smaller laptop. I don't have any proof of it though, just a speculation.
-
Other spec differences notwithstanding, they both appear to use the same Go7700 512mb so I would hazard a guess that like past Lamborghini tie-in's, you pay extra for the style and branding. Also every VX2 I find is 15.4"?
Personally speaking, Asus have missed a trick here. Get rid of the car logo, but keep the other nice touches and I'm sure there are enough people (me) with more money than sense (myself) who would pay money for laptops styled like that (I) -
Yeah I think its wayyy overvalued and paying that price for just a 15.4 with normal specs is just ridiculous!
go for the G1 forget the VX. hell even if there was a difference it wont be enuff to compensate u for the 1k more u spend, after all a 7700 will always be a 7700 GPU whatever clock speeds they use. -
If the gaming experience is your concern, it's much better if you go for G1.The VX2's most important points are the style (no denying it) and the build quality, the features and the weight (some 0.6Kg lighter)
IMHO the Go7700 VX will be an overclocked version. At least the 7400 VX was a 7400 with the dedicated memory upgraded to 512MB (from 128) and with higher clocks. But you can get a MONSTER with 3000$. -

yep yep. thx guys. well, back to deciding whether to get the G1 or just stick with a good 17" x_x

there is a review of the VX2 over at TrustedReviews
They got a 3dMark06 score of 2899 compared the the 2389 that the G1 got in the review section. But the VX2 has a 2.16Ghz C2D compared the only 2.0Ghz C2D in the G1. -
hmmm the VX2 only has a 14.1 screen? for that price?! oh and the difference in performance could be due to the resolution used in the test. the VX2 in that test used only 1024 x 768 with 0 FSAA and 0 AF
-
The 3DMark05 score for an ASUS W3J with a 1.66 Core Duo is Equal to a W3J with a 2GHz C2D.
It's a 15.4" laptop, based on V1Jp's motherboard
The 1024x768 with 0 FSAA is the default settings for 3DMark which is used to compare the PC's against each other. You will get difference 3DMark05 score on the same machine with different settings. -
thats wat it had on the trusted reviews link that it was a 14.1
and yeah thats wat i meant, the G1 score couldve been lower due to resolution or quality settings cuz i doubt an overclock would ever give the VX2 such a high score over the G1. and it was 3d2k6 not 5 -
No. The TrustedReview clearly states (taken from first page)

under display size it says 14.4 thats where i got it from...didnt bother to read the review. -
That'll be a typo
12.1", 13.3", 14.1", 15.4", 17" are the sizes -
yeah i know thought the .4 was the typo not the 14
the reviewer clearly should be shot for this indiscretion hehe -
just going to confirm that vx is an overclocked version.
of course the laptop isnt worth the 1k more. your mainly paying for the name, but if I had the budget i'd go with the vx2 just because i was drolling over the pictures in the asus forum. -

The problem is the main improvement in GDDR3 is the power consumption from what I know (ASUS V1Jp has DDR2 too).
And I'm sure that ASUS W3J with Core Duo 1.66 scores the same.
'cause it's mine! (At the time I bought it that was the only config. available, 2 months later the one's with your config came)
