Can anyone currently using a Go7900 GS tell me how bad the power consumption is on it? Please state what battery you have, and average life while running games of moderate to high reqs. I'm trying to decide on how big a battery I'll need.

I have the 6 Cell and I barely get an hour or so when playing games. Remember, you usually cant play on mid to high on battery because of power consumption.

Got a 9-cell and I get about 2.5 to 3 not gaming, brightness about 1/2 and wireless turned on. Gaming, I'd say I get about 1.5 to 2 hours, but I've never gamed for that long. I ran a battery down from halfway to about 10% after gaming for about 45 mins one time.

Which laptop are you looking at? Look for reviews of that model with the Go7900GS graphics card and see what the battery life is.

I get about 2 hours of gaming in on my 9-cell with screen JUST under full brightness and network card on (does that really make a difference? I never notice any).

The Intel wireless cards are very light on power and usually there is only a few minutes of difference in battery life. So, no it generally does not matter whether it is on or off.

Thats what I figured, haha, I just do it because everyone else does to conserve battery life (I'm sure thats why most people do it as well), thanks for the clarity chaz.

Yes, I use the card at max then.
Fortunately my notebook can last very long at battery.
Maybe it's because my 7900GTX is a 256MB version and my harddrive is only 5400 rpm. Also my cpu is only 1.83Ghz, i don't know if such things will help the duration of playing games on battery.

If you're playing online games or sending lots of data, it will use more battery power. Radio transmissions take energy. If you're just web-surfing, don't worry about it. If you're copying a 1GB file over the network, it will significantly affect your battery time.

IMHO I would never recommend playing games on battery with high powered GPU cards. After an hour of gaming your battery will be running warm to dang hot(!) depending on your current draw. High heat and L-ion are not a good thing but a good battery should be protected from thermal runaway. Well, that's what Sony thought, not sure about the bargain bin ones.

I expect 16 months out of my battery near full capacity so I baby it a bit in this regard.
