So following on from the shock news that GTA IV will come with SecuROM I am thinking of eradicating it by any means possible, short of a clean install, SecuROM from my system (until I get GTA IV on Friday anyway, then I'll have to wait for a no-dvd patch and then get rid of SecuROM again).

Question is this though, all the games I have (all of them bought and paid for) run using a no-dvd patch, will they still run if I remove SecuROM?

Thank you in advance for any advice on this. :)

I'm pretty sure messing with secuROM can render your disc drive useless. Not worth it imo.

EDIT: my bad starforce is the bad one.

It can be removed, though it's not easy and requires downloading some extra tools (free) from Microsoft. But you won't be able play games that where 'secured' by SecuROM. You need those tools to remove registry keys and some files from HDD.
    Here is the guide. LINK

Thank you wojtek_pl, I had already found that site and that is the guide I will be using.

But from what you have said and from what I have read on that site even if I remove SecuROM my games won't run even if I use a no-dvd patch for them?

Incorrect. Someone must have bypassed the secur rom stuff to make a patch.

Oookay, so assuming the worst happens, can I use a system restore point to restore the computer back to being infected with SecuROM or will I have to use the backup I did with Acronis yesterday to restore it?
