I figured I'd post this for my fellow soon to be STO players.
JIH MUSHA SOH is the code for the "Admiral's Uniform" that was put into several Blue-Ray box sets. For God only knows what reason the code is NOT unique. So enjoy!

Is there a monthly fee like WoW?
-
It's a Triple A MMO what do you think? lol... Yes there is.
-
Yes. Although for .99 you can buy your way into the Beta next month by picking up a copy of STO at Target which contains your Beta inside the DVD clamshell.
-
I don't know. I never play MMO RPG's. I was completely turned off after about 10 hours in WoW.
Looks like I won't be playing. No game is worth $50 + $180/year to play IMHO. As much as I love Star Trek. -
Beta stars in 3 days, not next month. Open Beta that is, with pre orders.
-
I fail to see how a game that is good and you enjoy is not worth the money. You probably spend more money on movies between gas/popcorn/soda/ticket a year. Both are forms of entertainment.
-
Maybe because other quality games that I've gotten hundreds of hours of online enjoyment out of I've only spent $50 game price and that's it. (BF2, Starcraft, C&C Generals, Descent 2, Operation Flashpoint, ArmA II, Falcon 4) That's all I'm saying. If they're going to charge $15/mo then at least give the game for free! I'm not blaming them, it's the unfortunate standard we live with. Just my thoughts on it. (And I don't spend much on going to movies btw). But I'll start a new subject on this, since it's OT to this thread...
-
OPEN beta for every1 who pays for it, lol

Here is the reason why everything about star trek sucks and always will suck

Do not play MMORPG's, htwingnut, especially huge ones such as this. It will consume your soul. I've lost too many good men to WoW and I can't bear to see anyone else fall to STO.
Oh man, I lol'ed hard on that one. -
I thought it was a love making ritual. lol
LOL. I also like how Shatner, or sorry Kirk, is able to escape the lizards grasp who can lift a 1000 lbs boulder and hurl it 20ft in the air. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
its like a crocodile. if it bites down on you, you won't be able to escape the massive force.
however, you can hold its mouth closed relatively easily.
similar thing going on here
the super-strength only applies to boulder throwing.
yes, the fight scene is ridiculous. -
One thing you must realize. MMO's cost 10 times more money to make than any other genre of games. Were talking 25 to 60 million depending on the grade of the MMO. A triple A MMO can easily surpass the 50 million mark. Not only that but the servers, constant developing of patches and content, cost a whole lot more than a standard game where you get some patches.
There is a whole lot more involved. I play WoW - and have played over a dozen or more MMO's in the past so I'm ok with paying the fee due to the quality of the game. If it's not up to snuff I stop playing. Then theirs the entire social aspect of the game, you meet lots of new people in guilds and servers due to the persistent world. And I will tell you one thing, until you've raided with 20 to 200 people at one time you've never actually played anything as fun.
I remember my Lineage 2 days with 500 of us all on one ventrilo servers in seperate rooms by class to assault a keep in pure PVP. OR 300+ of us fighting the massive Chinese farmer alliance in open PVP. -
I guess I won't be able to get into an MMORPG much then any time soon. I only get an hour or two at best most days to play.
Well thanks for info. But maybe in a couple years when I can, maybe it will have matured enough that I can play and won't have to deal with the new glitches, or it will have died and obviously wasn't worth my time anyhow.

I'm sorry special effects wern't up to your standards.............................. IN 1967........................DUMBAZZ !Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

The price is quite poor.
Looking forward to some good footage of the game though, from what i've seen it looks fairly good! -
$59.99 for the Digital Deluxe is smack on point with any other game. Mass Effect 2 Digi Deluxe is $59.99, Dragon Age Origins Digi Deluxe is $65, COD MWF 2 is $59.99, and the list goes on. $49.99 for the normal version of each isn't bad. You pay more for the special versions and get more when you do.
Any new "A" title is $49.99 - I just normally wait a while and get them cheaper as I'm usually in no rush. But with ME 2 and STO I'm chompin at the bit lol. -
Yeap. Now go look at Star Trek XI

Thanks -
the attack of the star trek fanboys!
Its sad that u know the date of that awesome fight scene... -
I can't stop laughing!!!
Why the director and actors weren't fired?
-
Why? Why? Why did I not ask for STO as a late Christmas present! Instead I went against my gut and asked for MW2. Honestly I haven't gotten into it as much as I thought I would
-
For the record I LOVE Star Trek, and i've been following this game development for a few years now. And I know MMOs have traditionally not had the best graphics out there, but this new one looks REALLY dated. Is it just me?? Anyone?
Also has the cost per month been announced yet?
Thanks! -
$15 a month. Cryptic's version of the game has a bit of a non life like "champions online" feel. I my self liked Perpetual's version of the game as they were going for extreme life like and was a lot different game play wise. All the interiors of Cyrptic's version are huge, like consoles being massive and door ways big enough for 20 foot humans. Perpetual's direction I liked much more.
Here's a screenie of Cryptic's version:

While not a Star Trek fan, and not going to bother with this MMO...
The concept of paying $10/month for something you will get MANY hours of entertainment from each month is actually an amazing deal.
Even with the $50 buy-in...
If I spend ONE night in a month playing the game instead of going out, the game pays for itself in the first month. Nevermind even a LIGHT player with get 20+ hours of entertainment per month out of it.
Such games generally result in meeting real people with similar interests... Yes, this has resulted in real friendships where we meet over beers and talk about the "war stories" and laugh about the goofy place we all met.
Sure, I can see some people not being into this sort of thing... but using the financial reasoning is just not realistic by any means. Doing anything with "social" in the concept usually costs more than $60 for even a single outing.
As a side note... who could complain about something which groups all the trekkies together for easy herding? -
Heck yes. I'm also a major WoW fan and give Blizzard my $15 a month VERY happily. It's a awesome game, I have lasting friendships from it, great raid times with the guild, etc.
I met my first love in an MMO. SWG to be exact. She lived in Norway I in NY. So I flew there and lived there, and it was all due to the fact I played an MMO and met her. That was the happiest time of my life. Things eventually fell through, but I met someone and we are very close to this day. The whole social aspect is one of the biggest benefits of MMO's.
I've played nearly all of the well known ones, SWG, EQ2, Lineage 2, and the list goes on. In the end I just sell off my accounts when I'm done with a game and move on.
I'm disabled at the moment, and if it weren't for WoW, or STO, or any other MMO for that matter life would be pretty dull right now. -
Believe or not, I'm not, nor ever been a fanboy of Star Trek. Liked a couple of the movies though. My point is if your going to attack something, at least don't take cheap shots........................... STAR WARS FANBOY!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

Man, you guys live some pretty rich lives. Are you saying that you'd be going out spending $60 a night if you weren't playing online every day? That doesn't make sense. It's not the same thing either. Going to the bar and hanging out with friends is different than sitting in front of a glowing LCD panel and a keyboard. There's plenty of people, most people in fact, that if they weren't playing online, wouldn't be going out for $60 a night. They'd be sitting home watching TV.
Again, I get many hours of enjoyment from a single cost game that can be just as "social". -
Never Play.How to register?
-
Got cable, DirecTV or FIOS? How much does that cost you a month?
-
$100/mo for cable, internet, phone, and I can play more than one game online, talk to people any time I want to, watch hundreds of different programs, with hundreds of free on demand, and do anything else on the internet. You can't compare a single game with TV or other forms of entertainment. It's hard to justify not having cable which everyone can enjoy simultaneously, over not having a single game. I used to fly planes and that cost me $300-$400/mo (when I actually made decent money) and even then thought $15/mo was expensive for an MMO.
Either way, I see the point. I still think they need to be a little more generous with the initial game cost. If it's successful then they have no worries, if they created a crap game then they deserve to lose their butt.
Because I like Star Trek so much I may give this a shot, but I have a hard time justifying the $50 or $60 initial game price. If it comes with a month of play at least it should hopfully convince me. I'll just wait a month or two and see how the reviews work out.
BTW Phinagle, love your Avatar! lol. -
You can watch hundreds of different programs...but not all at once....and you can watch most of them on demand with just the internet. The extra you pay for the cable TV is just that..extra...and what matters for the comparison is the hours of entertainment you get for the cost.
Me personally if I watch more than 5 hours of cable TV a week it's a lot....and most of the channels I pay for I don't ever watch. I can also stream different content to different computers and TVs in my house with only the one internet connection.
For me the cost of cable TV isn't worth it for the amount of time I spend watching it.
I also have a cell phone...which is a waste of money by itself...so I don't need a land line. (I do have the urge to try Magic Jack though.)
As for the avie it's Big Man Japan....which I got to watched using the internet.
-
Cable isn't expensive if you have kids... cheapest per hour entertainment you can get! I watch football, and lots of hockey, usually though not just sit down and watch, background, you know. Plus a couple TV programs like 24 and Lost. I agree phone is a big waste of money though. Main reason I have home phone is for fax, and was wondering if MagicJack would work fine for that. That'd cut $20/mo from my expenses, enough to pay for an MMORPG. LOL.
I was reading the STO forums, and it seems that every person that gets the game will get 3 guest passes. If that's the case, I'm hoping some kind soul will have pity on me and give me a guest pass. But considering how much of a jerk I am I doubt it.
-
If you got kids play Lego Universe with them instead.
Legos are cooler than Star Trek anyway. ;þ -
Wow. And to think I made this thread for STO players to get a free code that's hard to find. Talk about going off track. Honestly htwingnut I don't care what you think of MMO's and that goes for everyone else. To eaches own.
Back on topic now. Be sure to enter the code before Feb 2nd folks. -
Good reason for the thread Spock.
It does work. I saw it on the mmorpg.com forums a few days ago and got it ok. You can enter it here:
http://www.startrekonline.com/enter_key
You'll have to make an account if you don't already have one. -
ya i want to confirm that it does work.
-
You're right I apologize. Beam me to that lizard planet.
-
Hold on there... these online games don't cost $60/night or even $60/month.
Its a $50 buy in, and 10/month or so.
My point was $60/night is ONE bar tab sitting in front of an LCD (or plasma) watching football or a few trips to the movies sitting in front of a movie screen. (assuming you bought a guest)
Yeah, trading that ONE trip a month to the bar does indeed save you the money you spent on the game... AND you get social activity that no non-paid community currently equals. (unless you like cheats and non-maintained hardware...)
No, this doesn't mean you stop going out... you simply trade a MUCH cheaper form of entertainment for much more expensive ones.
Where you spend your entertainment dollar is your prerogative, but arguing that the MMO is not financially a good deal is rediculous.
I spent my $50 5 years ago to pay Lineage2... its now $7/month... NOTHING I do for fun is cheaper and more effective entertainment.
And like I said... its nice to have something for the trekkies to gorge on... they tend to get jumpy when they cannot complain about something star-trek related.

1 night at a strip joint is about $200

@KernalPanic - I'm not going to answer... I already got phasers on stun at me. My geriatric heart can't take any more.

I got my AK-47 on kill if you fall to MMORPG, htwingnut.
-
Who said it's on stun?
It's ok man lol. I see where your coming from to a point. I'm 26 and grew up in the "digital age". My parents think like you as well. Then again I've got several grandmothers and grandfathers in my guild in WoW lol. One is 83 LOL. -
I avoid strip clubs on purpose.
With my tolerance, it would be much higher than that if I didn't get a dance.
Drink prices like that are alcohol abuse.
/woot new thread derail... sorry.
Anyways, I really do have high hopes for the game... not that I am going to play, but like any IT department we have a number of people who have an almost unhealthy interest in Star Trek. I am hoping this will give them a new fix. -
NP, I didn't mean to make a war. I think the biggest deal is how much time you spend in the game. If you are in it 10-12 hrs per week, I'm sure $15/mo seems like a decent deal. If you're only on it a couple days a week for a couple hours, it's not.
So that got me thinking that maybe a tiered to play system makes more sense. I guess I'm irritated because I *WANT* to play STO. Just I will be miffed if I pay $50-$70 to start and it sucks, or get rigged into monthlies and can't play so much.
I know I can't change it. It is what it is. I guess I'll just have to wait and see unless I get a spare $50 one day soon. -

Haha that's amazing,
I think the MMO pricing is good if you have lots of free time. I stopped playing WoW and have been back on console/steam games recently and have spent enough in the past month or two to last probably 2 years on WoW. AND I have a few more on my list
WoW was doing me a favor financially... in an evil, twisted way
-
Thanks for the post, I'll try this out later. I'll confirm if it works for me, but I'm sure it's valid.

Worked for me.
