GoldenEye: Source Beta 4 release nearing

Just a little shout out to a project that doesn't get near enough accolades. It does not have an official release date, but I have it on good word it should be out in the next month.

I know this isn't the latest in graphics or eye-candy, but it IS GoldenEye in all its glory. You don't have to be an N64 GoldenEye fanboi to appreciate what has been done here...but it doesn't hurt =]

 

I downloaded an early beta version well over a year ago. I can't wait for this upcoming release. Goldeneye 64 was my first FPS ever.

 

Yeah Master, I played Beta 3 earlier this year, was barrels of fun...but bet 4...I want me some Moonraker lasers!

If they can create the N64 feel with new PC functionality (online play) I will be in heaven. I loved that game so much. From the missions, to the music, to the characters, to the level design, to the weapons, it was a near perfect fps game and way ahead of its time.

Perfect Dark for some reason did not captivate me nearly the same way.

I'll have to keep an eye out for this project.

They have to make sure to include overpowered remote mines that you can throw 6 feet away and detonate in mid air so much hatred my little brother had for me when we were kids from me running around killing everything in sight with those.

 

They've had MP out for a while now, though it doesn't really capture that same N64 feel.

 

yeah watched the video of beta 4 and it doesnt really look goldeneye'ish just like HL2 with Goldeneye weapons/models. I guess that is to be expected when its a totally different game engine.

 

You can play Beta 3 right now, it's out, just hop on over to the page and start the DL. You have to own ANY source game in order to install GES. Here's the install page from the wiki:

I personally think it captures the feel quite well. The only thing that's missing to me is 3 other doods in the same room with empty 2-liters and bags of chips everywhere =]

 

It 'feels' just like Goldeneye though.

I play this with the housemates quite often. It's great, but it could do with bots because there's only 3 of us, and a lot of the maps are bigger.

 

I agree with the bots. If you get on with several people though, it can be quite fun.

i will be playing this. i played the older versions a lot but the only bad part was that not that many people played it.

 

Yeah, I'll be playing it as well. My laptop is starting to get old for these sorts of things...ohhh well, a little less eye candy can be managed.

 

If this has the same nostolgic feel, I will be estatic!
