I'm looking to get a FPS game or two, and i was wondering which ones you think are the best. System requirements aren't a big deal, as i have a pretty good computer.

I'm about to get the expansion pack for Doom 3 tomorrow.

I have always loved UT (unreal tournament) or for single player plain "Unreal". I have played UT, UT2003, and now UT2004 and I just love all 3 of them.

Half Life 2 is great. It's got an excellent story and the multiplayer modes are fun.

Doom 3 isn't as good as HL2, and a lot of people seem to have similar opinions.

You can get a demo of UT2004 (I used to have it) and play online with one map. It's a great game. I'll likely purchase it later. Half Life 2 is keeping me busy, so it may be a while.

    Unreal Tournament 2004
    Halo

This seem like a good selection?

Looks good, just don't let it take over your life.

Well, atleast its not an online RPG like WoW - or your life would really be gone.

I think if you want multi-player Counter-Strike, and Counter-Strike:source are the best, but if you by HL2 you will have access to these.

Half Life 2 would be on the top of my list too if I didn't own it already [ :D]. It's a great game all around. It also looks like some pretty good modifications are coming out for online play. Both VALANDIL and DYSTOPIA I am looking forward to playing. VALANDIL is a medieval multiplayer modification and DYSTOPIA is a cyberpunk multiplayer modification. Both look very interesting and you might want to check it out if you are interested in online play. I can't forget the Day of Defeat: Source mod which will be coming out this spring. It is a World War 2 multiplayer modification. They all look fantastic and are all free, all you need is a copy of Half Life 2.

Unreal Tournament 2004 is also very good although it doesn't really have a single player campaign. Basically it is just a frag fest in single player. The different types of gameplay are fun. The Capture the Flag and Onslaught game types are my favorite. There are also mods out for the Unreal games but I am not familiar with them.

Day of Defeat. Also another Wolrd War 2 game. It is based off the Quake 3 engine I believe. It is fun but I would wait for Day of Defeat 2.

I think you should go with a game that allows online play and get a few multiplayer mods. They are the most fun usually.

could i play all the aformentioned fps games with this notebook?

what fps game is best if you just want to shot stuff.
like not really follow the storyline if you dont want to but shoot stuff for fun.
like arms and legs flying off and i think its fun to shoot inaminate objects and see the damage.

There is a good old game called Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix. You should be able to find it for under 20 bucks and it is a blast to play. The single player is OK but the multiplayer is awesome!

I'm one of the few who liked Doom 3 better than Half-Life 2. Doom 3 was the scariest game I've ever played and a lot of fun. Half-Life 2 just seemed to drag on needlessly at several points. I never got the "feeling" of the original Half-Life with HL2 until the very last level (Dark Energy).

Far Cry was excellent and there are lots of mods and maps that make it fun to replay the game. Another really good FPS game was Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay.

STALKER is gonna be really good. FEAR is about to be released, too. It could be the best FPS game of 2005.

Doom 3 was scarier, but Half Life 2 was much more enjoyable for me. The physics were awesome, I could actually get into the story, and the graphics were good, even at low settings.

I guess if I were to have played Doom 3 more, maybe I'd enjoy it more, and having paid $55 for HL2 may have had some impact on my opinion. Maybe I was forcing myself to like HL2.

if you're looking for some good gameplay experience over good graphics, wolfenstein : enemy territory is your choice[8D]
it's free and just allow online gameplay (no single player with stupid AI)
just go to any of the big servers (with like, 60 people at all time) and it's really funny to play with so many people
in the game you have 2 teams and each team have an objective to do (get some gold/documents, dynamiting a transmitter etc) in each round of the game
requirements are low and it's free, but the game play experience is the best i'd say[ :D][ :D][ :D]

Since no one else mentioned it, I'll say "Call of Duty" (along with the expansion pack). I like it better than Battlefield 1942, but I think the game play in both are aimed at slightly different audiences. BF 1942 plays like an online game, even when you're playing by yourself. CoD in single-player mode is more like you leading a team (the action revolves around you a little more). Of course, on-line play is very similar to other online FPS. It's all in what you're looking for.

I find that I go back to CoD a lot. I never really got into all the Half Life games, too impatient I guess.

To second whoever said Elite Force II, yes, both Elite Force games were terrific. I've played them both at least twice.

Another game worth mentioning is Area 51 (fairly new, but only $30). I just finished the demo, and I had a blast. It doesn't have near the jaw-dropping graphics as DooM 3 or Half-Life 2, but it's a lot easier on the ol' GPU. Plus it's a fun break from all of the games that take themselves way too seriously. For instance, in the demo you get to battle your way through the studios where they faked the moon landings, complete with hokey gags and cheaply built sets. :p
