So, I'm sick ... ya, waiting for my new camera. I'm in the mood to play some FPS. Now this is going to be tricky as I ve probably played all of them. lol. but nevertheless, I need your opinions and recommendations. I'm looking at anything up from 2000. Unless there is an older awesome game that I haven't played which its gonna be hard buy hey.

Here's what I'm in the mood for:

doom3 - finally finish this game.
doom3 resurection of evil - never played this one
doom 3 with some high res texture mod - if you know a good one, ple let me know.

Half life 2 - again for like the 100th time. lol. If I'm gonna do it again then it needs to be with some awesome ultra high res texture mod.

Stalker 1 - Never finished this one either. It was a looooong game. lol

AVP2 - never finished the marine campaign.

Duke 3d with high res textures - lol, ya when was the last time you played duke from start to finish!?

Bioshock - maybeee I'll play it again, this time evil

Just finished farcry and farcry 2 again ...

    what else ....

finished all R6 games (including the old ones), crysis (done), call of duty (done, all of them), Wolfenstein (done, all of them), black hawk down (done, all of them including other navalogic games), FEAR (done, all of them), SOF(done, all of them) ... ehh, ya I play a lot of FPS games.

Plz help me out and choose my next play through. lol. There must be something i haven't played.

    EDIT:
also what I meant by "never finished this campaign" is that I probably got stuck somewhere at around 70% of the way through and gave up. lol.

haven't played borderlands yet. L4d1/L4d2 is good but I'm looking for a singleplayer campaign.

    Also:
Fallout 3 and serious sam (all of em - done)

lol, I ve been playing it since the beta release in 99'. can't do it anymore. Nowadays even 14 year old kids are better in CS then I am :D

I might try borderlands but its $50 right now ... hmm ... anything else? It can be an older game, I don't mind.

Get the Unreal Deal pack on Steam. $30 gets you the original Unreal Gold, Unreal II: The Awakening, Unreal Tournament '99, Unreal Tournament 2004, and Unreal Tournament 3.

Also, for $20 on Steam is Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter. Pretty wicked fun.

Dude. If you have not played Painkiller, it's $10 off GOG.com. Get it. You will not regret the purchase. If you love FPS, you must play this game (and that's not something I usually say about any game!). One of the best shooters ever. It has a gun that shoots shurikens and lightning.

    Shurikens and lightning.

Also, the original Far Cry. It's kind of like Crysis except the bad guys are just mercs and not trained military, and it's a blast to make them wet their pants as you take them out one by one, or just walk in the front door, minigun blazing. Plus there's monsters. They're pretty fun to fight, and even more fun to watch rip the mercs to shreds. And if you play up to the last couple game sequences, you're in for some extra fun ;)

Killing Floor? It's a horror co-op survival game. Pretty good entertainment, the game is all about headshots and there are a lot of guns/melee weapons to choose from. Tons of maps too.

System Shock 2 with all the high res pack and what not, epic, even now the ambience is still far ahead of all the current FPS clones

Have you played Star Wars Dark forces 2 Jedi Knight. The single player story is one of my favorites as is the game. It's available from Steam I think. It's very oldschool compared with the games you are talking about.

Second nod for Painkiller...not much of a 'story' (like Serious Sam) and it's old school but fun...

And a second for Chronicles of Riddick though I prefer Butcher Bay using the upgraded engine...short game so you'll finish by the time you get your camera, but it has some interesting mechanics that you don't see in other games...

Mirror's Edge is another FPS with a very different sort of vibe...more of a First Person Platformer (FPP)...

    GUN
    Jericho
Quake 4 (if you like Doom 3)
Undying (a bit old [original Unreal engine] but worth a playthrough if you can find it)
No One Lives Forever 1 and 2 (another game that uses an older, proprietary engine, but is genuinely laugh out loud funny with some crazy weapons and enemies)
Star Wars Republic Commando (short, but interesting squad dynamic with easy interface)
Brothers-in-Arms series (if you like Medal of Honor or WW2 Call of Duty...Brothers is a little more tactical)
MDK 2 (barely squeaks in with your 2000 rule, but I think it's a classic anyway...gog.com has it for cheap...graphics are dated, but it's a fun game)
SWAT 4 (if you like Tactical Shooters like Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six)

I believe all of those are more recent than 2000...

If you want something really throwback you can play Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. I played this when I was in college and it was a lot of fun.

I also second Painkiller, pure FPS, no plot!

No one lives forever series wins!! totally forgot about those games. lol. I have never finished them but I remember that they were fantastic! now its time to find them somewhere in a store. lol.

    EDIT:
also since this game is running on the same engine as nolf, you have to check out Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza. Another old one of my favs.

    I would recommend:

    - Unreal II (someone already mentioned it, in a pack)
    - Quake 4
    - Gears of War
    - also Borderlands (but this is like STALKER, long with quests).

man, this really blows. I can't find any NOLF game anywhere to buy. None. All of them gone. Only amazon has some copies left but I'd prefer to buy it online. This time calls for desperate measures. I dont usually do those kind of things so I don't know all the good websites for this, but can someone help me find an ISO of this game? I don't wanna be downloading some trojans. lol.

The online multiplayer demo of 'soldier of fortune: double helix' is played more than the multiplayer of the full version. Its a fun demo, been playing it for years eventhough its only 1 (big) map with multiple heights.

eBay has both the first and the sequel available. You won't get the oversized box, but boxes are overrated especially if you're looking for a short term fix.

Try finding Star Trek: Elite Force if you're truly an FPS conoisseur.

And Prey was another FPS that I thought was fun and had some innovations that Portal borrowed to make into a full game...

Max Payne? It's a third person shooter, but a really really good one.

I noticed some people mentioned system shock 2. I played it for my first time a year ago, and even though the game is old, it's still very fun. I'd strongly recommend that as well.

These are both cheap too, if moneys an issue. Chances are you'll have to download system shock though, don't know if you can buy it anymore, maybe ebay?

That's a really good game. You should be able to find the solution by searching google. Whenever any of my games give me trouble I just search some of the keywords in my error and I find a few threads with the problem and solution. It's never failed me.

    good luck!
