Does anyone out there know of good games that have a recommendation of 1ghz or lower that get good ratings by game critics???![]()

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
1 GHZ in CPU? What is the CPU in question here?

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
If you clarify what kinds of games you like to play and what the specs of your system are, I'm sure you'll get plenty of recommendations. Generally, the advice is going to be to look at older games, though, since older games naturally have lower requirements.
-
You should give us more info, such as genre (do you like rpgs, shooters, etc.) that you prefer and your system specs, so we know which games we could recommend that will be likely to be running well on you comp ^^
Other than that, I will just list couple games that you might enjoy and probably will have easy time running
-Minecraft
-Terraria
-Starcraft 1/BW/2
-Starwars Knights of the Old Republic
-Half-Life & Portal
-Final Fantasy 7...? xD -

One game:
Heroes of Might & Magic III
(one of the greatest games ever made with infinite replay value) -
torchlight !
-
Rollercoaster Tycoon
I play it on this netbook all the time. So much fun. -
Diablo 2! (Warm Up your skill)
-
Minesweeper?
Diablo, Diablo II, FF7, FF8, maybe Portal? DOOM, DOOM II, Final DOOM, maybe GTA 3? Maybe Unreal Tournament 2004? Civ 5 *might* play at the lowest settings. -
CS 1.6
Still has one of the biggest community and fanbase since release about 10 years ago. There are thousands of servers available. Since the game is using an old engine, it'll run on any computer 2003 and up no problem. -

Old classics mostly.
Fallout 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Max Payne (yes, 1 and 2), Deus Ex, Half Life (probably 2 as well). Most point-and-click adventures if you're into puzzle solving.
I would recommend GOG.com as a place to do most of your game shopping. Most games on the site will run just fine on a glorified netbook processor like the C-50 and they're cheap. Aside from the above, Ultima 6 and 7 are definite favorites. You could also run emulators for the 16-bit console generation and before (i.e. SNES, GBA, Sega Genesis and earlier), but you're supposed to legally own the consoles and the games to use an emulator. -
Not sure if they have English translation for titlesss from KOEI. But if you like strategy/Rekoeition/Asian stuff can look for
Sangoku (Romance of the Three Kingdoms) 5-11
Nobunaga's Ambition 11-13
Taikō Risshiden (太閤立志伝 2-4
Uncharted Waters.Great Navigation Era (大航海時代, 4
These game run on a P4 with a ancient GPU and they are AWESOME, they all are in series( some of them is on their 11,13 release (also released on console) so you bet they are good)
But ,yea they all base on asian history except the Great Navigation Era where you got a ship to sail around the world.
Old japan made RPG are good aswell, turn based combat , many have English version I believe.
Edit: hope I don't look weird lol. -
Also, maybe the first shogun total war and Red Alert 2 ._. -

Starcraft series. Warcraft series, Maplestory
Games you'll be able to play for sure: Colossal Cave, Atari Adventure -
Age of Mythology. I don't like RTS's, but I've played through that game + expansions at least 5 times
-
Might also be worth looking into something like this. Ancient games on a dead console brought back to life!
HARDOCP - SNES PC Build Project - Part II -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
Fallout 1, currently free on GoG
-
-
Klingon Academy if you like trek/space combat games.
-
Civilization IV should run very well on older hardware and is truly a great game.
-
I did play some games on my old netbook (MSi U100). Those were HOMM3 & WC3. For a short time I even played Jade Dynasty (MMORPG) and Halo. GTA San Andreas worked to some degree.
-
MGS1: Integral (PC port)
MGS2 Sons Of Liberty (PC port)
epic! -

Who knows, perhaps you can run more demanding games if you dial down the resolution. -
Console emulation is almost guaranteed to work on a slow PC. Our old Pentium 4 1.7GHz desktop rig could run NES, SNES, Genesis, GB/GBA and PlayStation1 emulation just fine, even on the IGP.
On the PC side, Diablo 1 and 2 work great, as well as the original StarCraft. SimCity 3000 will also work great too. -
My specs are
1ghz dual core/// 4 gb ram/// raedon hd 6250 -
Halo CE is pretty light, turn sound variety and quality to low to help prevent the CPU bottleneck. Should otherwise pull 1024x600 high at 30FPS smooth.
Counter-Strike Source is light on GPU, but heavier on CPU. Turn sounds to low quality and avoid using bots which are CPU-heavy. Otherwise its smooth sailing, 1024x600 mostly high, AA off.
You might want to consider the original Counter-Strike (1.6) as its lighter on CPU and a joke for any modern GPU.
Call of Duty 4 scales decently on the CPU, as long as you're in smaller games (8 players or less) with sound quality turned down. GPU-wise its probably mostly low settings but with a few things higher like textures and maybe low specular.
Other Source games like Half-Life. Same rules as Counter-Strike Source. Except Portal, too CPU-dependent though it would be playable, it would jump between high and low framerates so spastically that it would be annoying.
Oh, and Fallout 1 and 2, Starcraft 1.
Emulation, flash games, games before 2006, blah blah, blah just keep CPU usage low. -

Your graphics card is rather low in the notebook check rankings list, but perhaps you can handle some more recent games if you dial your display down to 1280x720, 1024x768 or 800x600 resolution. What's your native display?
I recall running games like Fallout 3, DA:O, ME2, Witcher 1, etc., on a very crappy AMD dual core Toshiba lappy with the AMD 4225 or 4250 GPU a few years ago. -
His cpu must be an amd c50. I would recommend toca race driver 3 or need for speed most wanted or carbon/underground on that specification.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is another excellent game that you should be able to max out with those specs.
Considered by some to be one of the best RPGs ever made. -
Warcraft 2
-
C&C Red Alert 2 if RTS games tickle your fancy. Still a great game after all these years!
-
AMD C-50 should run Morrowind just fine
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I do recommend the Paradox Grand Strategy Series of games. Even the latest Crusader Kings II is able to run on your setup (albeit not on the highest settings, but the game isn't taxing to begin with on aging systems).
-
Pharaoh, the best city builder in history (for me anyway
) and should run in any working machine

Yeah... Old games will run well on a slow computer. My favorite old games are: 1) The "No One Live Forever" series, 2) The "Deadly Dozen" series, 3) the Homeworld series, and Men of Valor.
-
Age Of Empire 2
-
I for one would not recommend playing Minecraft on a 1Ghz CPU- that game is one of the most CPU and RAM greedy I have ever played. On tiny, you MIGHT be able to get above 30 FPS, but I seriously doubt it. Halo CE is a good option, and you can always try the free demo before deciding. Personally, though, if I am on an old computer I try and play ArmagetronAD, a very nice 3d lightcycle game
