Hey all,
Been five years, but I finally dumped WOW last month. So i'm on the lookout for another MMORPG that has a trial, but is P2P afterwards.
I experimented a little over the past 6 months, most notably Age of Conan. Also thinking of maybe checking out Lord of the Rings again. Also anyone still play Vanguard? I quit not because it was a bad game at the time, was just REALLY buggy.
Never played Everquest before so I tried the trial of EQ2 last night, my friend hated the interface so he quit. I personally kind of liked it. But before I make any commitments I want to have tried just about every option trial wise. Oh and I had an EVE account for a month, but it was so big and confusing I just couldn't wrap my head around it![]()
Suggestions? Any good trials I did not mention that are worth a shot?
P.S. Played Ultima Online for years, don't see myself going back.

Dungeons and Dragons Online....Great Game

Dungeon and Dragons features a F2P account, but you dont get access to the high end stuff.
Also Warhammer Online features a "endless" trial, but you need to upgrade to subscription account to access end game stuff.
I just started playing Dragonica, as its light on system requirements and you dont to be a "hardcore" player to enjoy it.
(Like WoW where you need to do big raids and at the end everyones complaining about the loot.)

EVE: Online.
Free 14-day trial (or 21-day with Steam).
I'm not an MMORPG fan myself, but the sheer awesomeness of EVE had me trying it for a day. If I were ever to cross over into the world of MMORPGs or P2P paradigms, this would be it. -
I was reading a good article on WoW the other day(I'm a WoW retiree as well, gone clean for a year, been playing since the begining), and quote:
This is true. There are so many clones, which just bore us after a while because its the same darn thing, and I've always used WoW as a benchmark. Nothing has really made me raise an eyebrow yet, unfortunately. For some odd reason, I have a feeling the 'next one' might be a Blizzard game... -

I've heard good things about Star Trek: Online. It's not released yet, but you can apply for the beta (sort of like a free trial if you get it) -
Branch out, come play WWIIOL, it has a free trial and is P2P and you never know, you might like a change from the RPG scene. Worth a shot if you are going for a free trial anyway.

Though EVE is the closest to not a clone because it is completely different setting and gameplay. May give it a second try seeing as i've got some time on my hands right now.
Currently on Dark age of Camelot, so far I like EQ2 better. But I put 3 hours into EQ2 and only 30 min in camelot so i'll see how I like it with some more time played. -
I would wait till TOR comes out, or else I would suggest Eve, which you have tried.

Eve is good, but I find that the trial sometimes is too short to give you a full grasp of the game which leaves a lot of people confused and disenfranchised

I started to play DDO, the F2P model, several months ago when I heard about the F2P model and found it quite fun. In fact I wound up buying some turbine points to get some enhancements (if you will), a lengthy adventure and some account options.
Now not to start a flamewar or anything but my recent foray into DDO prompted me to finally do the 10-day trial of WOW. Being a gamer since the late 70's I'm familiar with WOW but never played until 2 days ago. Believe it or not. Anyway WOW is quite a fun time indeed! I'm reading through tons of stuff at work about WOW, planning things out, looking forward to the weekend to spend GOBS of time with it and quite probably picking up the battlechest unless some major drag happens.
People really have strong feelings about WoW, love it or hate it, but from someone who literally tried it for the first time online instead of reading about it I can see why it's so popular - it's quite cool! -
Try FFXI. I've been playing for 5 years now. Still 500k+ active accounts. Be forewarned, it has a steeper learning curve then the average MMORP.

Lotro seems good, I've always liked Lord of the rings, I haven't played their game but I guess it's worth trying right? All those games have free trials which you can just use and see if you want to continue which is pretty good, I play wow atm but im sick of it, lotro is also medieval fantasy but seems more realistic to me, ill try it when my wow game time expires =)

Josmol, did you pick up wow at the $5 sale prices on BF? The battlechest was also $20, so you might be able to find some deals on it. I've been playing WoW for about 6 months now, but my sub ends in a week and I don't think I'll continue til cataclysm.. I only PvP and it's getting old.
Anyway.. I tried WAR out and that's fun, but it feels very much..dead at the moment =( -
Eve take quite a bit of time investment to enjoy. It's such a wide open sandbox that a solo noob can be totally confused without an experience player guiding you along. I've played it since day 1 and if I didn't have a couple RL driends that stuck with it, I probalby would have quit a long time ago. Try to find people that you know from other MMO that also play Eve and see if they can give you a guiding hand.
Sign up for STO beta and give that a try. It's shaping up pretty good, there are still a lot that need to be done (which probably won't get done by launch) but they do have a pretty decent team of people working on it and even if it's still a bit rough at launch, I'll probably stick around as I still believe that it will be an awesome game once they polish it up (probably within 3 months after launch). -
The entire FFXI library is $19.99 on Steam last I checked. The entire MMO with all the expansions and updates AND 30month trial? Kick @$$ deal. If I wasn't working my way through a pile of console RPGs until FFXIV hits, I'd definitely give it another shot. Hell, think I might just get it and keep it in Steam

I really liked "Outside". Fun interface, the best graphics ever, and literally unlimited possibilities. It definitely has a free trial, and isn't quite pay to play although you will need to pay a little bit if you want to do anything fun.

Incredible NPC AI? Which outside are you living in? I witness their stupidity at a daily basis!
Good MMORPG's with Trial but Pay to Play?
