I'm looking for some fun pc games that I can run on and older computer.
3.0 ghz (single core.. lol) w/ HT, 1gb of ram, radeon 9200.
Graduating from high school this year, so you know how it works. 2 months left of school, accepted into uni, absolutely no motivation to do work. Thus, I'm looking for some games to play... to squeeze some more fun out of this computer before I drop it for a laptop that can play newer games.
Looking for things to play when I'm not playing dota.
Looking for more rpg, action-rpgs but I'm also down for playing other games as long as they're good.
-
Tie Fighter.
-
diablo? lol
-
The Radeon 9200 is pretty good in it's days. What kind of game do you like?
-
Starcraft, GTA III & Vice City, Counter-Strike
-
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Flashback. C&C Red Alert 1.
-
Age of Empires II ... that runs on almost anything
-
Anything made for or compatible with DirectX 8 will run, but stuff made for like the GeForce Ti4200 or higher you will probably have to turn some settings down to make it play well. Happy gaming/ slacking off lol.
-J.B. -
Deus Ex 1 will run on it.
-
You guys are giving this thing not enough credit. I have a similar desktop in canada but with 1.5 gigs of ram
Im able to play the whole NFS series up to NFS Carbon
CS:S/Orange box/DOD:S ( any valve games)
GTA series
Even Oblivion ran on it >.<; -
I play Rome: Total War on low-med, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and 3 on med, every game in the command and conquer 10 year anniversary set, and the Sims 2 on med. I've got to keep the resolution down in newer games, almost always 800x600 or 1024x768, but it at least fills in when I'm not able to use my desktop. Not to mention my other system specs are well below what you've got, so its possible you could get more out of yours.
I realize that none of these games really fit what you were looking for, but they are the biggest time wasters I could find that run confortably on my card. I definitely recommend Rome: Total War if you haven't played it before, as it looks good enough on low-med that it is definitely playable. -
Empire Earth

An oldy and a goody:
System Shock 2
'nuff said. -
-Amadeus Excello- Notebook Evangelist
Fallout and Fallout 2
Starwars: Jedi Knight/Outcast -
the Civ games, sim city.
-
Sacrifice, the Dungeon Keeper series and Populous: The Beginning would be my picks.
-
Doom, that game can literally run on anything nowadays...
-
Rome: Total War, now that´s a real time consumer. Never getting tired of that game.
-
Deus Ex
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast
Age of Empires II
Starcraft -
Civilization III. Works on my Pentium II 450 MHz, 128 MB RAM, and Matrox G200 (8 MB) video card. It'll certainly work well on your machine and is fairly cheap ($20 for the complete version). Civilization IV will also probably work, so long as you're running XP. With Vista 1 GB wouldn't be enough memory for it.
Age of Empires II is another good one that'll certainly work, and Sim City 3000 (probably 4000 as well, never tried it). Same with Railroad Tycoon II (probably 3 as well, not sure). I've run all those on my 450 MHz machine with no problems.
Really don't know anything about the Radeon 9200 so I've no idea what its graphical capabilities are. My knowledge of GPU's is pretty much nVIDIA with a bit of Matrox and S3 Trio except for the newest ATI's. -
Red Alert
Red Alert II
Battlefield 1942
Civilization II
Civilization III -
can't go wrong w/ any of the Blizzard games.
-
Red Alert 2, Deus Ex, Diablo 2
-
Yep, definitely Diablo 2 + Lord of Destruction expansion, since you are looking for an action RPG. Be warned though, you will be totally hooked to it, if you like this kind of games.
-
Here are a two rarer games, because I'm guessing you played most of the popular ones:
Severance: Blade of Darkness-fantasy based action game, some might even call it an rpg, because of the leveling.Very rare game, very difficult and very good.
Aliens Vs Predator 2 (best fps game of all time imo) -
-
Dwarf Fortress

alright checked it up, supposedly roughly the same as those Intel integrated graphic cards, so basically its about the equivalent of my previous laptop then but it only supports Direct X 8.1.
On that laptop I played Half-Life 2 (though only just), Half-Life, Deus Ex, Unreal Tournament 2004 & 2003, No One Lives Forever 1 & 2, Max Payne (make sure you get the patch), Second Life, Halo, Sims 2, & Fable: The Lost Chapters.
Basically will play any game below 2004/05 at decent enough settings. -
You can try the Baldur's Gate series and see if you system can hold Neverwinter Nights 1 (both from the same creators).
-
-
All of the above.
Like the OpenGL version of DoomII with about 3 million user maps don't forget an original GOY; Descent 2 with OpenGL mod. and the 3 million or so levels for it.
Both these run very well on older laptops. Descent 2 http://sourceforge.net/projects/d2x-xl/ looks and runs amazing on a 1900x1200 screen.
The only negatives is you must have the original "HOG-WAD" files that can be had for cheap over the net. -
Unreal Tournament GOTY, Morrowind, Battlefield 1942 Collection, Counter-Strike 1.6/CZ, Counter Strike: Source (in DX 8.1 mode), and probably Baulders Gate II w/ Throne of Bahl.

Throw in Netstorm: Islands at War and we can get married. -
Another vote for the Baldur's gate series. My favorite RPG by far. I'm going to replay it again this summer. You can find the whole bundle (Baldur's Gate 1 + Tales of the Sword Coast Expansion, Baldur's Gate 2 + Throne of Bhaal Expansion) for around $40 I think. I remember seeing it on ebay a while ago. Great series, open ended gameplay with a great story.

Cool, thanks for all the replies!
Right now I'm looking for Sacrifice, and Severance: Blade of Darkness. -
-
These could seem a bit dated (specially graphic wise), but I'd recommend:
1) Descent: Freespace - The Great War
2) Freespace 2
3) U.S. Navy Fighters
First two are space sims. The second, aeronautical. All of them are great. -

Wow nice recommendation there's even some game here i never heard/played like the Blade Of Darkness and Sacrifice. Though its old but gonna check it out anyway, really bored right now... finished up a lot of game..
Recommend Starcraft Series, Warcraft series - DOTA. Definitely old school game: The diablo and Baldur's gate series. Elder Scroll 3 Morrowind is a nice game i played with vast environment and the cool thing is the free-roaming... Dungeon Lords, action-rpg with a lot of classes in it. Bit buggy but the Collector Edition solved a lot of the bug issues..
-
Wow thanks to the people who said Sacrifice. I just played through the tutorials, and it's awesome. Gonna get on this game right away.
The only thing I see that would start to make me angry is that I'm anally retentive about grouping my summons, so everytime I summon a new thing I have to regroup them and put them into formation again. Heh. -
Glad you liked it, still looks good for a game I bought in 2000.
-
Hehe, I played the original HL1 just a week ago.
I still play Quake 3 on the net, for fun -
I don't think Half Life ever gets old.
Also, thinking of it...another game I'd suggest is Hearts Of Iron II. Its newish but plays more like Axis & Allies thus not really graphically intensive. -
knights and merchants, wierd gameplay, but i spent many an hour on it, and still do.

I'd definitely look at Gametap. I used to hate it but now the first month is only 99 cents, and it's worth taking a look at. A buddy and I played online co-op Metal Slug X last night for like 2 and a half hours. Lots of fun.
I just wish it supported multiplayer action in the RPGs like Baldur's Gate, etc.
Good Old PC Games
