I have been an avid console gamer since the N64 but I recently purchased my first laptop and it can handle a lot of games, even newer ones at LOW-MEDIUM settings.

What are some good games for the PC? I've tried the Crysis demo and love it so I will get that and I already play WoW and WC3. Any ideas?

Okay, I'm gonna list games that I've played that I know are pretty darn good for these two genres:

    Battlefield 2
Call of Duty 2 and 4
    Doom 3
Half-Life 2 + Episodes or better yet, get the Orange Box
    Far Cry
    F.E.A.R
    Grand Theft Auto series
    Gears of War
    S.T.A.L.K.E.R
    The Elder Scrolls series
    Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines
    Mass Effect
    Bioshock
    Hitman series

    Others:

    Total War series
    Command and Conquer series
    Age of Empires series
Empire Earth series (don't get EE3)
    StarCraft + Expansion
    Company of Heroes
    Warhammer 40,000 series

go to ign.com, pc, reviews, filter the highest scores and most recent games.

read the reviews, buy some, try them, enjoy them.

My personal fav's: Cod4 & company of heroes.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion; it combines rpg and fps (sorta) in a fantasy setting and there are lots of content mods that expand the game
STALKER; it is one of my personal favorites that has a very promising addon on the way
Jade Empire; not much of an rpg but still one of the best games I have ever played.
Kotor series; D&D meets Star Wars
GTA: San Andreas; it's arguably the best part of the series
Half-Life; Half life 1 was a classic that is still fun to play today. If you want to buy Half life 2, get The Orange Box, which comes with all addons plus Portal (very fun) and Team Fortress 2
Far Cry; like Crysis, only slightly better (sans graphics)
    Diablo 2+addon; a classic hack 'n slay
Civilization IV: highly addicting turn based strategy game
