Steam thinks I'm using fraudulent credit cards (they never gave me a reason, but I'll try to resolve this later) and I've never heard of gamersgate. But my download speed is about 10kb/s so in order to dl a game that big it'd takes weeks.

I don't know that you have to be connected to the internet to play. If you buy through Steam, I'll be happy to send the files to you. You will probably need to connect to validate your key, but other than that it shouldn't require any internet connection.

But considering your issues with Steam, perhaps not a good choice for you!

Pretty much. I've been a gaming enthusiast for over 25 years (yes I'm much older than that).

Check out my games list here and on Steam here. It should be 95% complete, but I forget occasionally to add one.

Freespace or Starlancer are the best there is it this genre...
Or try X-wing Alliance, its a bit dated but story is A+.

Its a shame but they don't make campaign based space sims anymore.

Freespace 2, yes. Get at GOG.com. Then be sure to visit the FSOInstaller and Hard Light Productions forums for the FreeSpace 2 Open enhancements!

But Freespace 1 is just as good as 2, just no widescreen or improved graphics mods that I know of.

Forgot about X-wing Alliance! Great game, the story ain't half bad either. I was disappointed with the Battle of Endor. Didn't seem to capture the grand scale of the battle, but I must remember it was designed for computers many years ago!
