I've decide that I want to get myself a laptop for school, but I wanted one that has enough power to play some games(L4d, TF2, SC2, D3, etc.) as well.
I have a pretty limited budget and I don't really have the option of buying online. I went to some local shops and I found this model.
I couldn't really find any information on it, I just wanted to know if anyone here has ever had/used this laptop and knows if it would be an adequate laptop for my needs.

Doesn't look like much of a decent gaming laptop. Did they sell any other Gateways?
-

You can get much better than that. Gophn, where are you?

People have gotten that for $500... please don't pay $1000

Made in Canada -
You have any access to bestbuys, Konane?
-
This is the best I could do. It's ~$1,000 CAD for a 9600M GT.
-
Yeah, we got Bestbuy, Futureshop, etc.

They sell that at your bestbuy? -

Why not goto your local Best Buy?

Best Buy Canada doesn't sell any Asus laptops. Asus is only purchaseable online in Canada IIRC since no store other than Staples actually has them in retail drop-in stock(and Staples has the older crappy models too).
Your best bet for a "gaming" laptop in a decent price range without buying online would be that HP dv5-1157ca with the 9600M GT which retails at 897$CAD. The problem is finding it since it's a clearance item at Staples(i.e each store has their own remaining stock). -
oh wow i didnt see the price
$999... definitely not worth it, maybe 5-6 months ago, but not now -

Actually here in Canada you can get the 7811 refurbed for about $800 from tigerdirect i saw it only once and it was sold out....good luck.

I'd suggest the XPS m1530

I think the Asus gives you more for your money personally, its just super fully loaded and has a great price & warranty but since I own one I am going to know more about that product than the others. -

You may be able to find ASUS laptops at BestBuy, but considering you mentioned Futureshop, im guessing your from Canada. Best Buy dosen't carry ASUS in Canada.
Online retailers like http://ncix.com/ is Canadian and offer stores to place your orders in some cities in Canada, to avoid ordering online. Its worth taking a look. I have assembled 3 desktops over the past 2 years from them. -
I would prefer to buy locally because I am very particular when it comes to laptops. Essentially I like to try them before I buy them.
I suppose if I were to find a model online that I liked, and the price was too good to pass up I would defiantly consider going the online route. -
I was also wondering how many laptops these days use the Mac style keyboard? I know a few of the Sony Vaio models have them, I actually would have seriously considered the FW model, but they are ridiculously overpriced.
-

Lol they arent Mac style
Sony invented those chiclet keyboards and Apple just borrowed them remember this because people keep saying over and over again that oh "this keyboard is just like the mac!"....no it isnt that keyboard is just like sony keyboard the notebook was called the X505.
Anyways, if you want a "Sony Style" keyboard look at alot of the new Asus models coming out they are using those keys. The U and UX series -
