Good coop games with a 6y old kid

So my kid is 6 years old and although I've tried to shield him from computer gaming I can't stand against the influence of school, society and his godparents. For now I've giving him a few simple race and arcade games to play around with at set times in the week, but what I'm really looking for is:

1. a coop pc game that we could play together.
2. Either sharing a laptop (split screen) or on two different laptops is fine
3. Nothing too complex. He's smart, he can read, but he won't enjoy text-based rpgs obviously.
4. Nothing too violent. No fortnite etc, no military stuff. Cartoon violence is ok.
5. Nothing too scary.

 

Portal 2, Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, LEGO Star Wars and other LEGO series games

Couple points, first my son adores the free Pixar themed park that has various mini-games in it which fits exactly what you're looking for and includes split-screen co-op.
#2 Mario kart 8 can be configured to auto-assist drive players with both steering and acceleration
#3 Bowser's Fury also is co-op
#4 Battletoads and various TNMNT beat-up games on Xbox etc
#5 Clustertruck
#6 as previous poster said, *any* Lego themed game.
#7 Hello Neighbor and the various incarnations
#8 Various Plants Vs Zombie shooters on EA tie-in with Xbox

 

Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons maybe.

And probably just get a nintendo switch.

 

The Bloons TD series of games (BTD5 and BTD6 are both pretty laidback and have co-op modes,) and as hfm said above, Minecraft and Minecraft dungeons are quite good games.

Mario Party is also an option, though, I'd recomend the older ones (Mario Party 1-8) as the newer ones can be a bit confusing at times. Emulators such as Dolphin and Project 64 can easily run the older Mario Parties quite well with minimal setup.

 

I feel you. I didn’t want my son to get too into games too early either. He’s also 6 now. However the school curriculum has them using tablet based learning games sometimes and educational videos on YouTube.
This was somewhat a gateway.
We had his goofing around sometimes at home on tablet games but I don’t like the advertisement negging and holding him hostage until they finished every second.
I found him enjoying watching YouTube videos of Minecraft at home so I decided I’d rather him experience it rather than passively watching those noisy bell ends.
Long story short - we now play minecraft a couple of nights a week. Fantastic fun but just be careful, it’s addictive enough for adults, more so for kids so have you rules in place and then have some good clean fun.

Word of warning.. don’t show him the RTX version of minecraft - one can’t go back from that ... I surely did screw up there

 

IIRC Stardew Valley has a multiplayer, pretty neat game.

its cartoon violence lol killing aliens is acceptable with most strict religions..even jehovahs witnesses can play halo..

I'm not sure why you said what you said but its not exactly realistic and is more like a cartoon than real life

but I guess if he figures fortnite is bad for his kid then i guess so....it's just that when I was a kid we had a kid play halo and he turned out good..i think he was 6

so yeah I guess everyone has different opinions but instead of halo MCC i'd check out roblox it might not be coop but you could take turns and it's super popular with kids and best of all its free

but I liked the sugesttion to get a switch....I think thats your best bet
