Sooooooo I came upon an ad in Craigslist and it's sooo tempting. Here's what it was:

I'm looking to sell my gaming computer as I need a laptop for work. I built this computer about 4 months ago at the beginning of February and spent $1400 just on the tower.
All of the parts were ordered brand new from newegg and the computer was assembled in an ESD safe environment. All boxes for the components will be included.

    Specs:

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred Black Steel ATX Full Tower
Power Supply: Antec CP-850 850 Watt
    Memory: Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 4gb total, 2x 2gb sticks
Motherboard: EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR LGA 1366 Intel X58 SLI LE
    Processor: Intel Core i7 920 Socket 1366 @ 2.66Ghz
Video Card: EVGA 896-P3-1255-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896mb
Hard Disk: Western Digital Caviar 250Gb 7200Rpm
Monitor: HP w2207 22" Widescreen Monitor
    Optical Drive: LiteOn 24x DVD-RW\CD-RW Serial-ATA Interface

Also includes a Microsoft multimedia keyboard, optical mouse, ratzpadz gaming mouse pad and a creative 4.1 surround sound system.

This is a powerful computer. Runs all the latest games like Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 flawlessly maxed out. Will not need to be upgraded for years. Asking for $900, I would also be interested in $500 cash and a trade for a decent laptop. Let me know if you are interested or have any further questions

**ok, so I talked him down to a trade. My lappy (in sig) plus $250 cold hard cash. So what do you guys think? Good deal or a bad one???

I don't think that's such a great deal (not a bad one to be sure, but definitely shop around a bit before closing the deal, and only if you're gung-ho about trading a laptop for a desktop without messing around with selling the lappy for cash).

Your laptop is still pretty damn good, I'd say $600 or more for it if it's in good condition. I think you can build a better desktop system than his for the price he's asking (not a lot better, but... well, better's better). You might be better off not doing a trade.

Not a great deal. The desktop by itself looks like something from... well.. fall 2009. If he's throwing in the monitor and all the stuff it's a close call, the real question is do you want to move to a desktop? Do you game enough to warrant being completely immobile? There's other stuff to consider too; yes you are dumping a not-very-current laptop at a reasonable price, but you are moving to a desktop which deflates in value faster than cars do, so it'll be impossible to resell the desk later.

Basically, if you had any plans to buy a new laptop soon I would pass on this. If you want out of the laptop game then by all means take it.

Definitely not. The desktop isn't even that great, and for $900 you can build a better one nowadays.

    Haters gonna hate.

That laptop + $250 for that DT anyday. Seeing as you can get a similar spec'ed laptop for sub $500 (refurb) your basically pay less than $750 in total, which is a good deal.
