I'd appreciate some reccomendations for a good driving game to play on my ASUS G1S for when I'm away. I enjoy the PGR series on the Xbox360, and play the occasional game of Forza2. Obviously I don't want anything that's too much of a simulator because of the limitaion of digital input only through the keyboard, so I'm looking for something more arcadey, but with reasonably realistic and enjoyable handling & physics.
Any ideas ?

Trackmania Nations. Excellent fun, insane tracks, you can drive solo, lan or online and best of all FREE.

Too bad you dont have a Wii ^^ you could play me in Mario Kart.
Track Mania is cool and its free so nothing to lose, I got bored of it fast myself but like I said its free so what do you have to lose.
Racing games I dont think anything has ever been more fun than ridge racer for me (the entire series) except I really liked hydro thunder in the arcade. PC racing... gah I dunno I think the only one I ever owned was Viper Racing and it had its merits but its old and I would not recommend it. -
Trackmania Nations, 10% downloaded. Thanks guys, but do keep your suggestions coming -
i was gonna say "Live for speed", but since you want something more entertainment, maybe need for speed pro street?
-
need for speed anything since underground would be good.

People have already started using the wiimote with PC's because they are bluetooth devices and the wireless sensor bar. Depending on how long I would be lodged up I would probably pack my Wii and take it with me, it is pretty small and light in comparison to other systems, and just use a gamebridge and use your laptop as the screen. -
Need for Speed series is pretty much the only one I ever played..
That and Revolt, and yea, Trackmania, but fast uninstalled the latter. -
i love need for speed: most wanted, i think that's one of the best games i've played. carbon is a bit lame tho, quite a shame
there's also a new one that came out. but i havnt tried it yet -
Yea,Pro_street. It`s not that much of a blast if you played Carbon before. Not for me anyways...

Most Wanted > Carbon > ProStreet
-
Yup, Most Wanted was quite fun, even if it's already more than 2 years old.

There is a the problem that PCs are facing right now. People own PCs that are equal or greater in power compared to the current consoles, yet most of the games are crap. I love driving games, simulators and arcade, but since I switched back to playing PC games recently, I have noticed that there are no good driving games anymore with minimal exceptions. Test Drive Unlimited turned out to be whatever; Dirt was great except that it was impossible to keep cars stable; The only good thing out there is the NFS series, but for someone like me who likes simulation racing as well, it's a total bummer. There is Grid which is coming June 3rd and it should be fun, but check to see if you're system can run it. Like with others on this forum, the best thing to do is to have a PC and a console. Hopefully I'll get a PS3 by the time GT5 comes out...

Anyone remember Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed? They don't make em like that anymore.
-
-
Ahem, did somebody say Porsche?
-
I think we meant Ferrari !
sorry was a typo!
-
Test Drive Unlimited is pretty good.
-
-
cant wait for Race Driver: Grid to come out
-
I throughly enjoy Grand Prix 4 which is a Formula 1 game if you can find it. It has incredible AI and it was designed to be played using a keyboard.
-
I remember havinf tried Collin McRally for a while. But it takes a lot of patience for this game.
Also Toca Race Driver somewhat should`ve been much more. -
I also say Live For Speed. If you have a wired Xbox 360 controller, use that as your controller pad and you'll have a great time playing.
-
DiRT - Great Rally Racing Game
-
I'm downloading Live for Speed demo right now, hopefully I'll like it.
-
I reccomend Flatout 2 too, for fun playing, I bought it really cheap. It is a very fun game to play

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Grid is coming out early next month and I can't wait for it.

I haven't done a driving game since I retired my 1998 Dell Dimension XPS desktop in 2003, along with my old Sidewinder Force Feedback wheel. Driving really isn't the same on a keyboard, and even though gamepad controls are more fluid than keys, you still get zero sim-feel. I was always more of a fan of games with realistic dynamics (NFS
orsche, Sports Car GT, F1 2000) rather than arcade feel (pretty much every console racer, and most PC games as well), and you just can't game those sims as enjoyably on a keyboard.
I also think that driving 100,000 miles on real roads makes the fake driving lose its appeal, especially since I preferred the more realistic stuff to begin with. -
I downloaded the demo for Grid, and I'm not impressed. I don't like when they make real games feel like arcades. I love Burnout, but I hate when they use real cars with arcade-like driving. Will the PC ever get a nice simulation driving game?!?!?
-
It already did. Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed 2000.
EDIT: Here comes eleron! -
The first racing game I got into was Test Drive 6. I remember playing that game day and night. I was young, so I didn't complain about graphics and the gameplay was great. I think the Test Drive games after that could have been excellent, but weren't. I didn't like Unlimited at all.
Best games for the PC right now I think are GTR 2, as mentioned above, and Need for Speed: Most Wanted. The other NFS games are ok, but nothing like Most Wanted. I spent hours playing MW. I played Carbon for awhile, too, but it doesn't have the same feel as MW. -
That game was amazing. But we need something new. I guess my only option right now is a PS3 and GT5 when it comes out.
-
NFS PORSCHE FTW ! It was the best in the series.
But I really loved Carbon also...
Pro Street isn`t that bad either... -
I loveee the NFS Series .. played it all except Carbon .. When i get into one , i wanna finish it before jumping on to another one ..
Im almost done on Pro Street , wich isn't the best , but still really nice !!! I haven't tested Carbon Yet .. wich im going to doo reall sooon !
Nyways other then those ... Burnout might be another good one ! -

A 911 would cost about 100 000$ here, and what be like 150 paychecks for me -
You guys talking about NFS
orsche Unleashed just made me reinstall the darn game!
-
Porsche Unleashed HOLY @#$% dude!!! I was addicted to that game. Even though i couldn't find out how to do a 360 degree turn with the E-Brake
-
-
NFS V was among the best because you could do the whole Porsche Evolution, then you had the Driver Carreer, and multiplayer...very nice.
HP2 also was cool for the same reason, more game types in one : championship, hot pursuit etc... -
-
He`s at NY University, he got a very good deal on it.
I wish I lived in America too... 35000$ for a 20k miles Porsche? WOOT -
actually 18K miles
-
I added 2000 since I figured you drove it a bit -
I loved porsche unleashed, now I need to go buy it.
I definitely wouldn't mind having a 911 turbo... -
911 turbo always try to get their drivers killed.
Good driving game - Any Reccomendations ?
